George Alfred Howe
December 20, 1953 - March 16, 2022
It is with deep sadness that the family of George Alfred Howe announce his passing after a sudden unexpected illness. Predeceased by his father Mickey and his brother Michael (Gloria). Lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene, his mother, Helen Hunter, his sisters, Theresa Marshall (Jim) and Rosemary-Jean Thompson (Don), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
George was multitalented and always ready to share his broad knowledge. He was a teacher and mentor to many. Woodworking, construction, management, rockhounding, silversmithing, jewellery design, and lapidary work were among his many passions. He was a man who listened genuinely to people and always wanted to help; if you needed something fixed, George would find a solution.
George’s absolute zest for life and his adventurous spirit were always evident. He was constantly thinking ahead and planning the next adventure. George enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, entertaining, and hiking with his dogs at the Paska Lake cabin. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people and welcomed them into his life. It wouldn’t be a gathering if he didn’t plan some "George games" with fun prizes; as much as he loved these games tournaments, what he really enjoyed was bringing people together.
George started his working career as a pipefitter but was always going to school to broaden his knowledge. From working with tools, he progressed to service work in the HVAC industry, working for Lathams where he was promoted to sales representative. Eventually, he became Maintenance Manager for the Richmond School Board. George’s insatiable drive as a life-long learner led to BCIT where he completed both his Mechanical Technology Diploma and Bachelor of Business Administration. Along the way he received his Urban Land Diploma from UBC. He believed there was always something new to learn on life's journey,
His great smile, generosity and friendly personality will be greatly missed by his friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 23 at 1:00 PM at Quilchena Golf and Country Club, 3551 Granville Ave, Richmond.
