Lorraine Agnes Wells
October 11th, 2022
Died at the age of 91 in Abbotsford Hospital
Predeceased by her husband Roger
Survived by her son Paul (Leslie) and daughter Susan (Tony), 4 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren and two special bonus grandchildren Nick and Sophie.
Mom was born in Hazelton BC in 1931. She, her mom, and her dad moved to Vancouver when she was 4 years old. She grew up in the Marpole section of Vancouver. Here she met her lifelong best friend, Carole Edgar. After graduating from high school, she completed a business course and worked for 3 years in a brokerage house. In 1955 she married my dad, and they lived in Jasper Alberta for 3 years. They moved to Burnaby and bought a house that had been built by Roger's father, Ralph, owner of RB Wells Construction. While my dad worked for the Canadian National Railway my mom stayed home and raised my sister and I. I still remember coming home from school to the smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. My mom and dad enjoyed camping all over BC. They went on cruises to Alaska and LA. They also enjoyed travelling to Reno with my Aunt Velma and Uncle Ray on several occasions. Much laughter and enjoyment ensued though sadly not many jackpots (that I heard about) After dad died, mom sold the family home and got an apartment in New Westminster across from Moody Park. She joined the Century House seniors Centre there and kept active while making many great friends. Mom spent her final years in the Maplewood House care facility in Abbotsford. The staff there were marvelous and kept the residents spirits up with visits from an Elvis impersonator, antique car shows in the parking lot, movie nights (although mom was apparently not a big Harrison Ford fan...) and plenty of walks looking at the beautiful gardens. Mom was a very happy person and made friends wherever she went. She will be missed. Please leave a comment about how you felt about mom, thank you.

Lorraine was one of the most kindest and nicest people I know. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone. When I married Paul, she warmly welcomed me into the family....always making sure I wore my paper crown that came in the Christmas crackers! Lol! I'll always remember the Bavarian Cream she made at Christmas and of course her famous scones. I miss her and her laugh am I am grateful to have known her.
Thanks to all the friends and family that have taken the time to write such heartfelt message about our dear Mom. It is comforting to hear our gentle Mom made such profound and impactful memories for so many. As our sadness eases, we are blessed to have mom entwined in our daily lives.
Thank you Susan for letting me know of your mom’s passing. It has brought back so many good memories. Your dad and Ken worked on the railroad together and the four of us became good friends. So many delicious lunches with them in their home and visits they made to Kamloops to visit us. Your mom was one of a kind. Always wanted to know how the whole family was doing and was so proud of all of you. She would light up the room with her laugh. One just has to read all the comments and know what a wonderful woman she was. She will be greatly missed but it is good for you to know that she brought so much joy to so many peoples lives. It is just like her to not have a service because it would be inconvenient for others. Others came first . It was an honour to be friends with your mom & dad. Ken & Gayle McKenzie Kamloops BC
I will always remember Lorraine as one of the kindest Ladies I have ever known, not to mention her delicious raisin scones which She faithfully would deliver to my door while residing in Grosvenor House. On occasion if I was not home, I would find that small treasure hanging on my door knob. I feel blessed to have known her and send my deepest condolences to her Family.
My deepest condolences to all of you. I got to know your Mother/Grandmother where she lived in New Westminster & from the Senior Centre activities. We had many walks & wonderful chats ,especially about our families. She treated so many of us to her Scones, she will be greatly missed.
There was no one quite like Mrs. Wells. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people one could ever know. She was our neighbour in Burnaby for many years. I will never forget her contagious laugh and delicious homemade jelly and fudge. My deepest condolensces to Paul and Sue and the rest of the family.
She was the best grandma that anyone could wish for. Many of my best childhood memories were making the short trip out to see visit with her and grandpa. She was always so loving, kind, and supportive. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to live with her for a short while during her final year in the Burnaby house. She will be missed and I will hold her memory dearly.
Paul and family , sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing . What a great memory , coming home to the smell of your Moms labour of love …freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Our deepest condolences , Love , David , Liana , Adriana and Daniella Iluk
My auntie Lorraine was the most sweetest kindest lady I have ever known.
I hope I have the right Roger and Lorraine Wells, so here goes: Warren and Jean Harrison were my parents. My father’s step father was first his uncle Bruce and mother Sadie from Saskatchewan. My parents and I lived in the West Side of Vancouver from the early 1950s and I was their only child. They got to know you as the only Harrison & Wells people from the extended family left in Vancouver and mother rarely could travel. She bravely fought terrible rheumatoid arthritis until her end in 2002, complicated by dementia. Dad was spent after all the years of caring giving for her and me as I got Crohn’s disease at age 19 and somehow am reaching my 69th birthday on Saturday. Dad died in 2011. My parents spoke fondly of their visits with your parents and have pictures of you ‘kids’ in Mom’s many albums. Sadly, without siblings and children of my own I have no one left to leave Wells/Harrison photos that you might like. I make trips to Vancouver every six months for hospital and eye visits. If we did ever visit, I am sorry I have forgotten as prescription drugs that have long kept me going are taking a toll. My condolences on losing Roger and now Lorraine. They were names regularly heard in our house as Mom kept an extensive Christmas card and letter list that I kept going as best I could. Remember the good times. That is what helps now. Don
I met LORRAINE over 25 years ago during a group walk around Burnaby Lake park. I enjoyed our friendship over the years , whether long phone calls catching up on family or our lunches out. She was kind , compassionate and always willing to listen. Lorraine was so proud of her children , grandchildren and great grandchildren . Lovingly sharing stories about the family. She made the best raisin scones. Could not duplicate even with her recipe. LORRAINE will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Susan, Paul and families
Words can't really describe how much I cherish the memories of Grandma, particularly the small things. Like my sister Annelie described, some of my fondest memories are indeed, too, with Grandma 'Yo' Loraine. It is hard to believe that not too long ago, we were getting our shoes on to go for a walk - to "explore", as I remember we called it, after wolfing down a lunch of jelly on handmade scones. Will miss dearly all the great times we had together, but know that they won't be anytime soon forgotten. Love you Grandma, and hope they have solitaire on a computer somewhere up in Heaven. Love Dom, always
Sending our deep condolences for the passing of a beautiful and lovely lady, your Mum, Lorraine. Our parents Carole and John Edgar were such good friends with your Mum and Dad and had many laughs and memories. Take care of yourselves and know she was well loved and admired. Love Wendy, Cindy and Carole
Lorraine's gift of being totally present with whomever she met left people feeling positive, respected and worthy. She was a loyal friend with a keen sense of humour, intelligence and compassion. Thank you for being in my life.
I knew Lorraine best as Grandma Yo. Her and Grandpa Yo (Rodger) would always shout “Yo!” As a greeting when they would see my brother and I every Friday. Grandma was gentle, patient and extremely caring. Some of my fondest memories were made at grandma’s house. Whether it was helping her cut wisteria pods off the vine, help her make her delicious “grandma’s chicken”, or watching her play solitaire on the computer. I miss her deeply, and loved her very much.
I met Lorraine 7 years ago & we connected through our love for our grandchildren & books. She had a beautiful soul, gentle, loving & compassionate. I will miss her. My thoughts are with her loved ones.
Just to let you know, as per my mom's wishes there will be no funeral service. Mom was concerned about the efforts her older friends would have to make in order to attend a service. So she decided that an online in memorial site like this would be the best. Miss you mom. Thanks from the Wells family.
Lorraine was a kind, gentle soul who loved her family and friends dearly. She always would send me cards which also included pictures of her grandchildren. She was very proud of them. She did a good job of raising her own children. Deep condolences to the Wells family
