Joanna (Joyce) Cornelia Wright
(nee Valstar)
May 13, 1955 - December 17, 2022
It is with heavy hearts the family of Joanna (Joyce) Cornelia Wright announce her passing on December 17, 2022, in her home, after a brief illness.
Joyce was born on May 13, 1955, in St. Catharines, ON to Tom and Rita Valstar, and spent her childhood in the Niagara region. It is here where Joyce worked on her green thumb in the family greenhouse with her two younger siblings.
Joyce met the love of her life Jim, on a blind date and they were married on March 7th, 1981. Their journey took them back and forth between BC and St. Catharines before resettling in Langley where they happily tended to their blueberry farm. She was a proud mom to her children Stephen and Jason, and a loving Grammie to Nathan and Heidi.
Joyce was a kind, gentle and giving soul. She was a loyal friend to many and someone you could always count on. She loved to help out in anyway she could. She was a faithful servant and would show Christ’s love in her works.
Sadly, Joyce was predeceased by her son Stephen (2016) and husband Jim (2018). Joyce is survived by her loving son Jason (Ali) her grandchildren Nathan and Heidi, parents Tom and Rita Valstar, brother Gord (Wilma) and sister Shirley (Wayne Bennett, 2020). Brothers in law Tom (Barb) Wright, Bob (Laura) Wright, Don (Tori) Wright as well as several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins in BC, Ontario and NWT.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 23rd at 10:00am at 3070 275a Street, Aldergrove, BC.

I will miss Joyce Wright very much. She was a kind, gentle, charitable lady And both her and Jim had a fine sense of humour. They were my only visitors when I worked at UBC in 1985. We attended church together and I met them a few times at the blueberry farm. We believe Joyce though is in a better place now.
With deepest condolences to Joyce's family and friends. Her gentle style of talking expressed her heart and soul. Thank you Joyce for touching all of us who knew you. You have been a blessing upon this earth and we will not forget. Rod and Susan
We were shocked with the news of Joyce's passing and are sorry that Heidi will never know her Wright grandparents. She was an exceptionally kind, generous and loving woman. She will be greatly missed!!! We wish all the best to Jason, Ali and Heidi; Shirley and Gord , their families and parents; Ami, Nathan and Lily. We hope to keep in touch with Joyce's extended family. We all have precious memories of this amazing woman!!!
Joyce was one of the most pure, kind-hearted and gentle ladies we’ve ever met. And what an amazing mother! One sweet example of how she esteemed and honoured her sons, is one day after church, her shoes were adorned with her son’s 3-yr old art work taped on, and she was pleased to wear it. Prayers for Jason, her grandchildren and other family members. We’ve all lost a beautiful person this week, and she will be greatly missed by everyone. I’m sorry we didn’t make it to the memorial service, but tried and had to turn around due to the snow. Now watching her beautiful service online. ❤️
Jim and Joyce were such a beautiful love story, and their children were tightly enfolded into that story. They were a beautiful demonstration of "family" and all that it means. So sorry for those who are left to grieve Joyce's loss at this time. She was a very beautiful light.
May Joyce rest in peace until the resurrection.
My heartfelt condolences to Jason, Ali, Nathan, Heidi and Joyce’s family . There was a haunting emptiness when l heard of Joyce’s passing. Joyce was a dearest friend to me. I met Joyce and Jim in 2016 when they accepted my 2 sons to pick blueberries for them. Before l knew it, l had joined them to pick blueberries as well because Joyce’s kind, loving and caring heart had attracted me. Every year since 2016, my boys and l would go to pick blueberries. Joyce and l became very good friends. We would pray and cry together each and every time we visit each other. The night before her passing, l had talked to Joyce and l was going to visit her on that Saturday of her passing. She was excited and we were both looking forward to that visit and spending the evening together. As l was getting ready to visit her, l received a phone call with the message of her passing. I was heartbroken. I felt an aching void and l decided to continue to drive to her house hoping it was not real. When l got to her house l was greeted by Nathan and his mom and cried with them. Joyce had a big heart. My boys and l miss her already. Can’t wait for that resurrection morning when we shall see and embrace our loved ones again.. My thoughts and my prayers to all Joyce’s family, that you may find peace and comfort in the Lord. Loveness
So very sorry to hear this. I shared a room with Joyce in Pasadena one semester and always found her to be such a friendly, cheerful and positive person. Sincere condolences to her friends and family
So sorry to learn of Joyce's passing. She was a very kind and sweet girl out at Ambassador College around 1974-76. My sincere condolences to her family.
I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of our dear friend Joyce. As mentioned in the other comments, she was a giving, God centered person, and one of the kindest people you could meet. Always in the back of my mind I said I was going to see her the next time we came to visit BC but we never did. Always putting it off thinking there was more time to do so. I am saddened to say that we can never visit her. Joyce used to be my husband's assistant. She loaned me her wedding dress when I married Bill. My memories of Jim and Joyce was with long talks and lots of laughter with them at their place in Burnaby. She was such an inspiration. Gone at such a young age. Jason and family, you will be in our prayers.
We were saddened to hear of Joyce's passing. We both worked with her for a number of years and Jim and Joyce even graciously let us house sit for them when we were first married. As others have said, she was a great example of one who lived out their life as a Jesus follower.
From the moment I met Joyce I saw a beautiful soul, Joyce was a kind generous lady! I loved being at her farm but mostly seeing Joyce and enjoying her presence. May she rest in peace with God & her loved ones! My deepest condolences to all Joyce's’ friends and family
My sympathies to Joyce’s family. Joyce was such a kind hearted person and very independent. She was always willing to help anyone she could but never wanted to accept the offer of help. I shall miss Joyce and the many hours I spent picking blueberries on her farm.
It is with great sorrow that we heard of Joyce's death. We have known her for decades, picked blueberries at her ranch and had a lot of laughs together. She will be greatly missed!
Dear Family and Friends, There are no words to describe the incredible sadness we feel at Joyce's passing. She has always been a rare gem, with a kind and generous soul, and a loving and gentle heart. She has always put others first above her own needs and took much joy in all around her. I learned from her. She said to me, many years ago, that she thought her heart was completely filled up with love for her husband and her two sons, Stephen and Jason...and that there was no room left for more. Then, she said, Nathan arrived...and he was able to find a corner and wiggle into her heart. She found she had more room, as her heart grew with deep love for her family. That always stuck with me. She will be much missed by many. Love, Zahia & Glen
I’m deeply saddened to hear of the loss of my very dear friend, Joyce! I met Joyce in 1986, when I moved to Coquitlam, where she became one of my closest of friends! Even though our lives went in different directions, over the years, whenever we got together, we felt like no time had passed! We could talk and discuss issues for hours! And, at times, agree to disagree! Joyce, though quiet, had a very strong spirit! I’m so very grateful to have spent some time with her on her Blueberry patch! Having moved back to Alberta years before, I loved being able to stay with her, work with her, and again talk for hours! What a blessing! Joyce had a strong faith! It wasn’t unusual to gather round and pray when someone needed it! There is so much more to share but I will end by saying that I, as many of you, will miss her! She was a kind, loving, generous woman and a wonderful friend! My heart goes out to the family with my deepest sympathies! Lucienne

My condolences to Jason, Ali and Heidi and Nathan and the rest of the family. Joyce was such a dear friend to me. She will be missed. Joyce showed the love of Jesus in everything she did. An incredible women of God. I was so privileged to have such a beautiful friend.
Sad to hear this news. It seems that the Eternal is recalling many of his loved ones. We are fewer and fewer from the original 1970 membership. Love to all concerned Ab and Donna Neighbour
