Catherine “Kitty” Campbell
January 1935 – October 2023
Kitty passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2023, at Royal Columbian Hospital. Born in Greenock, Scotland, she was the 2nd of 7 children and the oldest girl. She met and married her beloved John and together they had two children, Ian, and Liam. She worked in Greenock as a pharmacist’s assistant and happily volunteered time with the St Laurence’s Social Club. In 1978, Kitty and John emigrated to Canada to join the family members who had already moved.
Although the first few years in Canada were challenging for Kitty, she found her bearings and began working for the Irene Hill group of companies starting as a part-time staff member and working her way up to become a store manager of Just Petites, a position she was well suited to as she loved to dress well and had a keen sense of fashion. She left Irene Hill in the mid 90’s to spend a growing amount of time doting on her grandchildren, who were the joys of her life.
Kitty and John had a wonderful marriage and enjoyed travelling together. They especially enjoyed their trips to Reno and Las Vegas, where they had fun with the one-armed bandits. Sadly, John was taken from her far too quickly as he passed away in 2001.
After spending many years alone, she found a new loving companion in Bill Commons, who she met at church and was also a widower. They spent much time together enjoying car rides and dinners, and with Bill’s family who became hers also by extension, especially Don and Chris, who were a great comfort to her in the years after Bill passed.
Kitty is survived by her son, Liam (Kathy), her daughter-in-law Maria, and her grandchildren Shannon Radonjic (Peter), Ian (Jocie), Conor, Brendan, and Sarah, and by her great grandchildren Benjamin, Adriana, Kinsley, and Callum, and many nieces and nephews both here and abroad.
Special thanks to her friends Brenda Graywolf and Kelly Birosh for their love and care for Kitty.
Kitty is now reunited with her beloved husband John and son Ian. May she rest in peace.
Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Burnaby, B.C. on Friday October 13th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mothers Again Drunk Driving or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
