Doris Marguerite White

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris White, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Doris passed away April 14th with her family by her side after a brief stay at the North Shore Hospice.
Doris was born in Legal, Alberta, the daughter of Nelson & Clara Brown. She was predeceased by her loving husband, George, brothers Earl and Gordon, and her brother-in-law, Art.
She is survived by her adoring children, Bradley (Sweet), Donald (Helen), Julie (Ed); grandchildren, Tanya, David (Racha), Christopher, Cara, Chris; and great grandson, Oliver. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Doug (Vera); sisters, Eleanor, Helen (Ed), Norma, Phyllis, Shirley (Michael), Dee (Ron); sister-in-law, Eleanor, and many treasured nieces and nephews.
After studying nursing, Doris moved to B.C. where she met and married George. There they shared a life together building homes, family, and enduring friendships. Doris enjoyed spending time in her garden, travelling with George, and volunteering at her church and at the senior’s centre. She embraced life with laughter, encouraged others, and demonstrated fierce determination. She was a force to be reckoned with in competitive activities and was often known to be the ringer, even in her 90s, at neighbourhood bocce tournaments with her Hornby Island friends.
Doris was one of those special people that will long remain in our hearts. A celebration of her life will take place May 4th, 2 p.m., at West Vancouver United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Hospice or the Hornby Island Community Fund.

Doris was a special friend to me and a mentor over the years. We enjoyed happy times on outings with our husbands. She will be missed but I feel blessed to have had her as a friend and am so sorry to be out of the country for her service. Much love to all the family.
Dear Julie. I’m very sorry for the loss of your Mom. She was a very special lady, and a wonderful caring loving woman. I have such fond memories of when you were living in WV at the top of 27th Ave. Prayers to you and your family also.
The world lost a special person, I will be thinking of all of you on May 4….your mom certainly made an impact on a lot of people! Take care

I was Doris' (and George's) accountant for many, many years until I retired. Every year we would get together for our annual visit and I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed those visits. Doris had me in stitches half the time with all the stories and things she got up to. We had Hornby Island acquaintances in common and we loved to catch up on everything happening there. I greatly admired her attitude and enthusiasm - she was an incredibly special person and I am grateful to have met her. Thinking of you all.
