Brian Engelhart
September 1st, 2019
Brian Engelhart passed away suddenly, September 1, 2019, at the age of 64. Brian was born in Kelowna, where he grew up in the care of his grandmother and his cousin Lauretta. He lost his father at the age of 4 and his mother a year later. His grandmother developed Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, when he was 10, so Lauretta took on the responsibility of raising him.
At the age of 27 Brian met Anne, the love of his life. Together they were so much better than when they were alone. Brian was there for Anne, and Anne was there for Brian. Together they made a home that was always open to family, friends and the neighborhood kids. Sadly, Brian lost Anne 11 years ago. Life was never the same for him. We will miss Brian but are glad that he is now with the woman who meant so much to him.
Brian struggled with mental illness, but he was always a kind and gentle man, with an affinity for connecting with children. Brian was a favorite uncle with all his nephews and nieces, but had a special relationship with nephews Dominic and Louis, and the neighbor boys, Wesley and William. They spent many happy hours playing computer games in Uncle B’s computer lab. Brian was a genius with electronics, particularly computers. He could fix almost anything, solving complicated computer problems for a countless list of friends.
In his last years Brian forged friendships with many people in the community, one of whom, Chris, shared his home to help with expenses. He also had a number of regular “computer friends” spread from here to Australia. He will be missed by many.
Brian leaves behind two sisters, Josephine and Carol and their families, his brother Allen’s family, his cousins, Lauretta and Grandy, his mother-in-law Grace, and all of Anne’s family. Also left to mourn, are his good neighbours, Kevin and Monica.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Anne, his parents Joseph and Eva, and his brother Allan.
A funeral service for Brian will be held at St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church in Aldergrove, Friday, October 4th at 10 am. Cremation and Internment at a later date by Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
