Egon Fuhrmann

June 19th, 2019

Egon was born in 1925 to Julius and his wife Emma nee Schaub in Arnstein near Heiligenbeil. At that time the country was called East Prussia. Egon was their first born.

The family lived for a short time in Loetzen and Allenstein before settling in 1935 in Stettin, Pommerania, now Poland, where Egon competed elementary school. In 1939 he started his education as a machinist in the shipbuilding industry and finished in 1943.

In January of 1943, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Pastor Emil Schulz. He became a member of the “Deutsche Strasse Baptisten Kirche” (The German Street Baptist Church in Stettin).

With a war ongoing, Egon was called into service in 1943. He served as a sailor on a frigate in the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. He was wounded three times and suffered from these wounds all his life. In 1945, the English Army took him prisoner and in 1947 he was released.

Egon lived after that for a short time in Munich and Ettlingen in Southern Germany. His parents had settled in Gerlingen, near Stuttgart, where Egon joined them, finding work at Daimler Benz in Sindelfingen as a maintenance man.

On July 1952, he married his wife Dorothea. They immigrated to Vancouver, B.C in March of 1953. Bethany Baptist Church became their spiritual home for three years. In 1956 they joined Immanuel Baptist as Charter members.

Egon soon found work as a mechanic in a sawmill until he and his wife moved to Kelowna, B.C in 1969. There they joined Grace Baptist Church.

In January of 1968, they adopted a baby girl, Ruth Elizabeth.

In Kelowna, Egon worked for Crown Zellerbach Paper Production as a press operator until he retired in 1989.

In 1993, he and his wife moved back to Vancouver to be near their daughter and family and settled in North Delta. Again, they joined Bethany Baptist Church.

Egon lived a long and healthy life that included many friends.

He moved in March 2008 into the Evergreen Baptist Home in White Rock and resided there until the Lord called him home.

He is preceded by his wife Dorothea, daughter Ruth, and his brother Walter.
