Lucy Hardie
February 26th, 2019
Lucy died peacefully on February 26 at age 88. She is loved and missed by daughter Katherine (Mark), son Ron (Marianne), granddaughters Emma, Olenna, Ella, and Christine, brother Boris Kishchuk (Marie), her loving nieces and nephews, and many friends. Lucy was predeceased by husband Alan, brother Fred (Nancy), and parents John and Anastasia (Nellie) Kishchuk.
Lucy was born in Canora, Saskatchewan. She trained at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon and worked as a nurse in Saskatchewan, California, and in BC. Lucy met Alan in Vancouver and they married in 1961. Lucy returned to work as an education aide in Richmond, BC, work she found immensely satisfying. Lucy travelled and read extensively. At the end of her life she said she had done all she wanted. Above all, she loved being a Baba.
Lucy was a thoughtful, generous, and caring person. She was also practical and no-nonsense. Lucy was keenly interested in people and had a gift for having people open up to her. She would always listen and, when asked, would share her sage advice. Lucy had many interests. Among other things, she enjoyed cooking (feeding others), gardening, sewing, knitting, watching the Blue Jays, and good conversation.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to Ron’s ride to Conquer Cancer (benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation) at www.conquercancer.ca/goto/ron-hardie.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
