Catherine Flora Macaulay
May 6th, 2019
Catherine Macaulay of White Rock, BC passed away on May 6, 2019 after an extended stay at Peace Arch Hospital.
Born in Vancouver in 1925 to Ronald and Maggie (Robertson) Macaulay from North Uist, Scotland. She was the second of their four children -- Mary, Archie and Margaret predeceased her. She lost her mother at age seven. Ronald later married Annie (Graham) Paul.
Catherine had twelve nieces and nephews and a large extended family with almost 40 first cousins in Vancouver and Scotland and successive generations following behind. She had connections with very many of them.
While at school, she was keenly interested in sports and excelled in softball and track. Hiking and other outdoor activities were favourite pastimes.
In her late teens, a guest speaker at her Church’s youth group challenged her to make a bigger commitment to Jesus Christ and she accepted God’s calling. She attended Vancouver Bible School and trained in Toronto to become a missionary with the Faith Mission in Canada. She became a rural evangelist visiting small towns and communities around BC with co-workers from their Crescent Beach home base.
After retiring forty-one years later, she continued to be an active volunteer at both Emmanuel Evangelical Covenant Church and her Evergreen Manor seniors residence. Amongst other activities, she led a regular Bible study group and conducted visitations with the elderly, the sick and others in need of spiritual support.
Catherine was at peace with her advanced cancer diagnosis and its anticipated consequences. She was amply prepared, spiritually and emotionally, for Heaven. She had a special energy, a sharp mind and great confidence in her life path. She lived a long and happy life with many friends and family members who loved and admired her, benefitted from her enthusiasm and leadership and were inspired by her deep devotion to her Faith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Emmanuel Evangelical Covenant Church, 17029 16th Avenue, Surrey, BC. Reverend Eric Hedberg will officiate.
Special thanks to the staff at Peace Arch Hospice and 6 South who cared for Catherine so well over her 10 week stay and very special thanks to her good friends Valerie and David Oulds who for years have consistently looked out for her and provided a helping hand when needed.
As a tribute to Catherine, please consider making a donation to a charity benefitting your community consistent with her life values and faith.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
I will miss Cathie. It is sad to think I won't see her again when I return to White Rock. She has been an inspiration for me for over 30 years. She had a single mindedness and a devotion to the Lord in sharing the Word and in prayer which always encouraged me and challenged me. Her loving ministry was a blessing for many. One day we will be all together with the Lord. This was indeed Cathie's hope and life. With warm affection and love, and prayer for God's comfort for all of Cathie's family and friends.
