Edmund Douglas Hudson
October 27th, 2020
We are sad to announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother uncle and friend. Doug will be missed by his wife Laura, son Ted (Elizabeth) grandchildren Teddy and Josephine. Remembered by brother Tim (Lisa) and sisters Sarah (Doug) and Jeanne (Jim) and their children, aunts Evelyn and Gail and many others in his circle. Predeceased by his parents Ted and Adelma along with this brother Ted.
Doug grew up in New Westminster and attended NWSS playing hockey till later moving to Crescent Beach and pursuing a career in the lumber industry. He was an avid fisher and loved to golf, many at the local golf courses knew him well for his humor. He enjoyed cruising the gulf islands aboard his boat with his wife Laura and yellow lab Kirby. Many recently attended his 65th birthday celebration with 78 car drive by parade including pyrotechnics that brought him so much joy.
Over the past summer as he battled cancer, he would often be found sitting in his front yard greeting everyone that would pass by, visiting with friends and family while enjoying popsicles with his grandson Teddy and teaching granddaughter Josephine to walk. He would request fresh baked cookies and crab to be delivered from family and friends. He maintained a truly uplifting attitude during his battle laughing into his final days.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be arranged for a later date, email celebratingdoug2020@gmail.com for further information.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
Messages:
Sincere condolences to Doug’s family and friends. About 45 years ago Balano, Roth, Doug and I giggled and guzzled our way to a weekend on Salt Spring Island. Of course, being with Dougie, we had a ridiculous amount of fun, but the details are PG rated.
Doug and I met at the yacht club and were good friends for a decade or more. I know how much he loved his family, and Cindy and I would like to say to all of you, we are sorry for your loss. We will miss Doug. He was a good egg, and a lot of people enjoyed his company.
Sincere condolences to Doug’s family. I got to know Doug at our cardiac fitness classes a couple of years ago. He was such a character, and so kind! I enjoyed his sense of humour - he had me giggling while exercising on the treadmill. Doug lit right up when he told stories about his grandchildren. Doug kindly gave me a lift home one day. He just happened to be driving that beautiful collector! I ran into Doug at Safeway in August and he told me about his diagnosis. What a terrible shock. Just not fair. I drove by and saw him sitting out front and had a chance to say ‘hi’,about a month ago. RIP Doug.
Dear Laura, Teddy & family, Tim & family.
The Hudson families in Calgary are very sad. Doug was our cousin and nephew and a very special person whom we shall miss. For a short time, he lived with us in Minnesota many years ago. He was wonderful company and loved to share his humorous stories. Being with him was like living with my brother again.
My sincere condolences to Doug's family. I have fond memories of Doug's passion for boating, working with Doug on his boats and many good conversations over a few (or more) beers. I've always appreciated his support and referrals for my business over the years and couldn't ask for a better customer turned friend. RIP Doug.
