Eleanor Louisa King
October 5th, 2020
On Monday, October 5, 2020, Eleanor Louisa King passed away in Surrey, BC at the age of 93.
Eleanor was born in 1927 in North Bay, ON to John and Florence McKenney. She received her nursing degree from the McMaster School of Nursing (Hamilton, ON) in 1951, and practiced and taught nursing in Hamilton, North Bay, Sudbury and Montreal. She married Arthur King on July 14, 1956 and retired from her nursing career in 1958 to raise their two children, Florence and John, at their new home in Toronto. During this time, she served for eight years as a member of the McMaster University Senate.
Eleanor had a great love for music, studying and teaching piano in her younger years. Her life was centred in the church and her strong faith. She committed her life to Jesus Christ during her university days and, in later years, spent many hours mentoring younger women in their faith. In 2008, she relocated with her daughter, Florence, and family to Surrey, BC where she greatly enjoyed west coast living. She was known for her questioning mind, her warmth of friendship, and her delightful sense of humour.
Eleanor was predeceased by her sister Gean Johnston, her husband Art, her son John, and her daughter Florence. She is survived by her son-in-law Eldon McBride, her niece Elizabeth (Dan) Cornish and nephew John (Sara) Johnston, her cousins Bill (Dorothy) McColeman and Patrick (Madeline) McColman, her grandchildren Kelsey Johnstone, Hayley McBride, and Taylor (Rachelle) McBride, and her great-granddaughter Olivia Johnstone.
A memorial service will be held in Toronto at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca).
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
Messages:
Eleanor, your sense of humour and the sparkle in your eye brought me and so many others so much joy.
Such a beautiful legecy. My deepest condolences to you all Eldon, Haley and Taylor!
We know this beautiful got her wings long before she left to be with our Lord
Eleanor was one of the most encouraging, thoughtful people, who never really acted her age. I think I laughed with her every single time we got together. She was pragmatic when she needed to be and very wise....and that smile of hers. But more than anything, her faithfulness to her Lord was the most inspiring thing about her. She blessed me many times and I am so grateful to have known her. Eldon, Taylor and Hayley, we send our condolences and a big hug to each of you. You added much joy to her long and full life.....Doreen & Rob
Thank you for being a true friend.
A perceptive lady, with a twinkle in her eye! I'm grateful we crossed paths.
