Olga Martin
May 9th, 2020
Olga Martin (née McGregor) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the age of 87. She will be lovingly remembered by her cherished husband of nearly 66 years, Ed; her children Julie (Roy), Cathy (Peter), Tom (Sandra), and Rob (Leone); her 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Olga is survived by her brother Clarence (Mae) and predeceased by her sister Hazel (Frank).
Olga was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, to Sed and Olga McGregor. She and Ed met while attending Teachers’ College in Saskatoon; so began their joyful journey together, with its focus on putting faith and family first. They enjoyed an extraordinarily close bond, demonstrating gratitude for their many blessings while supporting each other during sorrowful times.
Olga was a dedicated and well-loved teacher for more than 20 years, and greatly enjoyed travelling with her husband and children. She was appreciated by many for her welcoming manner, her warm smile, and her gift for showing a genuine interest in all those she met.
Mom’s deep faith in God was evident through her actions, as she demonstrated daily that "the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love" (Galatians 5:6). She loved her Lord with all her heart and we are comforted knowing that she is now with Him.
Mom was happiest when surrounded by her family, to whom she provided unwavering love and encouragement. Her caring spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
We are very grateful to the medical personnel at Surrey Memorial Hospital (BC) – including Olga’s granddaughter, Heidi – for caring for Mom with such compassion following her COVID-19 diagnosis.
A celebration of Olga’s life will be held at a later date.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
Messages:
So sorry to hear of Olga's passing. i will always remember my parents, Dave and Thelma, having visits with lots of laughs with Ed and Olga. Olga taught my Mom how to make a great pie crust back in the 1950's Best pies ever .
We send our sincere condolences to Ed and the family at this sad time. Olga fulfilled faithfully many roles from cherished daughter and little sister to great grandmother. In each of the roles she was steadfast in her faith and in her devotion to family, friends and her career as a teacher. Ed put a sparkle in her eye at first meeting ( College) and this love never wavered except to grow in strength over the years. Olga gathered people in a web of friendship that was true and long lasting. She cared about each one. I was honoured to be Olga's friend in high school, at Teachers' College and as her bridesmaid when she married her beloved Ed. We appreciated being part of special family gatherings where we met Ed and Olga's beautiful and talented family. We also enjoyed many fine meals as Olga was an excellent cook. Olga had a great sence of humour and we always looked forward to her Christmas letter and other pieces of writing as her talent was evident. it is difficult to say good bye, but as Bonnie reminds us, it is not forever, it is for now. Good-bye good friend. Blessings to Ed and the family.
Dear Cathy, Your mother sounds like a really, really nice person. We are so sorry for your loss. Françoise & Chris Lyons
My prayers are with all of you but especially Ed. Olga was quite a woman. I was quite taken with her and Ed's showing their love for each other and Christ. Love to you, Jo-Anne

We are so sad for your loss but we rejoice with you knowing she is home with her Lord and Saviour. Olga was such a bright light - we so appreciated her positive demeanor - she always had a smile to share, and she is missed!
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family Ed. We had so many wonderful evenings with both of you, playing hand and foot (with Olga and I usually winning!) and sharing news of all our families with each other. We know we will see Olga again in heaven and that makes our sorrow a little easier. You were such a lovely caring couple and it was so easy to see the love you shared with each other and all of your family. We’ll miss her, and we’ll see you soon Ed. God bless and comfort you.

Lorraine and I wish to convey our deepest condolences to you Ed, and your family. You have remained long in our memories stretching way back to University Drive days in Saskatoon. How quickly the time has gone. We will be praying for you in the days ahead. God bless you. A verse that is so comforting is found in Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms.
We were saddened to learn of Olga's homegoing -- thankful for Rob's 'phone call to let us know. Our deepest condolences to you, Ed, and your family -- we have fond memories of fellowship in Invermere when you lived here -- and enjoyable times when we'd head out to the coast to visit. Loved having Josh around when he was in our area -- a fine young man!
We were so sorry to hear that our dear friend, Olga passed away. Her birthday was on May 7 and we were hoping to hear that she came home. Instead she went to be with our Lord and Savior. We felt the love, the warmth, the generosity and kindness in all Olga did. When teaching with Olga at Wildwood School, her calm, no nonsense approach to things combined with her lively sense of humor made her such a fun person to be with. Ed and Olga opened their home for a wedding shower for us. We later rented their home for the summer when our second child was born. We love you Ed and we wish to send our condolences to all the family. Olga loved you so dearly and spoke of you many times. May our prayers lift you up at this time of loss and may her love be with you always until you see her again with our heavenly Father.
Our condolences to all the family. We will miss her greatly. Our consolation is that she is with the Lord and that we will see her again when we are with Him. We pray that the Lord comforts you at this time. Our love to you Ed and your family.

Olga was my mom's cousin. They kept in close touch until my mom's passing . My deepest condolences and love to the family.
To Mr. Martin, Julie, Cathy, Tom, Rob, and families, I was very saddened to hear of the loss of Mrs. Martin. In Saskatoon and in Montreal, I had the great pleasure of spending time with Mr. and Mrs. Martin many times over the years through my long friendship with Cathy and Peter. Mrs. Martin was always extremely kind and welcoming. I will remember her well for her joyful spirit and absolute devotion to her family and her faith. To all of the Martin family, I hope that you may find peace and comfort in your loving memories of precious time enjoyed together. Rena DeCoursey
