Dr. Akude Gletsu passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the age of 85 years.   Akude is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Gletsu, by his children Nana (Ronald) Miller, David Gletsu, Mawunyo Gletsu, Stephen Gletsu, and Keli Gletsu, and by his siblings Felicia Atawa and Gladys Akua-Mansa.  The family moved to Saskatchewan from Ghana in 1980.  Akude practiced medicine in Vanguard, Kincaid, and finally in Langenburg where he operated a clinic and worked at the local hospital for 20 years.  He retired from medical practice in 2001.  Akude and Carol then relocated to Regina where they enjoyed a happy retirement in the company of their children, other family, and their pets.  He filled his days with long morning walks, his passion for music, and his interest in various sporting events and public affairs.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  A special thank you to Dr. Stuart McMillan for his care over the years, Dr. Jim Coruzzi, Dr. Chris Ekong, Dr. Vern Gebhardt and the staff of the Pasqua emergency department and Regina General neuro-observation unit.  A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Ave, Regina, SK.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society (www.reginahumanesociety.ca).

Messages:

Our condolences and deepest sympathies to the Gletsu family. I have fond memories of visiting the Gletsu house. Dr. Gletsu always made me feel at ease with his sense of humour when I saw him, especially at the hospital or clinic when I was his patient. Our thoughts are with you.

Our neighbourhod will miss his friendly greetings and waves each morning

Thinking of the Gletsu family at this difficult time... I didn't know Akude, but heard many stories from family of his kindness and compassion. Nana...deepest sympathy for you. My prayers are with you.

Carol, Nana, David, Mawunyo, Stephen, Keli, My sympathies to you all. I have good memories of Dr. Gletsu/Akude. He was my doctor for many years, and I also considered him a friend. I remember we shared a birthday; when I retired in 1991, he wondered why I was retiring before him, since I was almost a decade younger! When Akude closed down his practice, he had not wanted any retirement/farewell event. Three of us ignored his wishes, and planned one anyway. and we were glad we had. He was really surprised and gratified to see all the people who came to say good-bye.

Our deepest condolences to the entire family. Mr. Gletsu was a great doctor and such an assest to our tiny town of Langenburg - he will always be remembered. Sympathy to you all - especially you, Nana - thinking of you at this time.

Dear Steve and family, My sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one.
