Adelle Andrews
July 7th, 2015
Adelle Andrews (nee Materi), dearly beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 with her family by her side following a brief battle with cancer.
Adelle was predeceased by her loving husband Ken Andrews, her parents Wendell and Lucille Materi, father and mother-in-law Phillip and Matilda Andrews and special Aunt Caroline Faber.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Dean (Cindy), Dianne (Jason) and Kory (Janie). Her five precious grandchildren Taylor, Riley, Karlee, Ty and Kru and her fur baby Jasper. Del's memory will be cherished by her brother Lawrence (Melony), sister-in-law Bernice (Harold), brother-in-law Gary (Donna) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
Del was born on May 5, 1948 at Lipton Sk. and lived in Lipton until moving to Regina in 2009. She worked for the Royal Bank in Lipton for many years until the branch closed and has been employed as a bookkeeper ever since. Del married Ken Andrews in July of 1968. She loved the farm life, her animals, the outdoors, and the seasonal nature of farming and life in rural Saskatchewan. Del was a passionate and competitive sportsperson and a very successful athlete. She was a softball pitcher of some renown, playing in local tournaments and sports days for many years. Del loved competition and instilled her love for sport in each of her children and grandchildren. In her later years, Del's voice could be heard chewing out an umpire, referee, or rival with good natured banter after cheering on her children then grandchildren at their numerous sporting events. Also angelically singing in the church and community choirs. Her fanatic devotion to the Saskatchewan Roughriders was a lifelong endearment. The Sunday before she passed away she was glued to the tv near her hospital bed complaining about the Riders’ lack of defensive pressure.
Del was also a passionate community minded person. She volunteered her time with the Lipton Lions Club, local school board, community rink, curling rink, and Sacred Heart Parish Church. She had strong convictions and values that she graciously shared with all who knew her.
Del loved visiting with her family and friends at gatherings and socializing anytime she had the chance. She was known to enjoy a shot of whiskey or three and announced recently from her hospital bed that when she arrived in heaven she would enjoy going on a "good ripper" with her many friends and family who had preceded her.
Del was a generous, funny, loving, caring mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In lieu of flowers, please make your contributions in her name to the CIBC Run For the Cure, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Regina Humane Society.
Anyone who knows Adelle knows that she was not a formal attire kind of gal. We are asking that if you so desire, come dressed to the memorial in your Rider gear. Nothing would please mom more than to see a sea of green!
