Lorne George Mitchell

October 28th, 2015

With family at his side, Lorne George Mitchell (late of Regina and his Stoughton-area farm) passed away peacefully in the Regina General Hospital on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the age of 76 years.

Lorne is lovingly survived by his wife of 49 years Gail (nee Headington) of Regina; sons Ryan (Lisa) Mitchell of Stoughton and Rory Mitchell of Regina; two grandchildren Lorne (16 years) and Cheyenne Mitchell (7 years); brothers and sisters Ed (Eleanor) Mitchell of Mayerthorpe, Jim Mitchell of Saskatoon, Shirley (Wally) Kulchyski of Winnipeg, Marion West of Trossachs, and sisters-in law Doreen Slowski and Marge Headington; brother-in-law Gary (Bev) Headington, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his infant son Kevin, his parents and parents-in-law on both sides of the family, and recently his brothers-in law Norm West and Jim Headington and sister-in-law Georgina (Tom) Benwell.

Born at the family farm near Froude, Saskatchewan to William "Bill" and Ellen (Armstrong) Mitchell, Lorne was the second-born child and always keenly interested in all farm activities.  Lorne forever remained a Saskatchewan farm boy, who could and would take on just about anything. Upon graduation, Lorne worked at the CIBC in various places in Saskatchewan, including Pangman where "Mitch" first met Gail.  With his father's passing, Lorne took over the family farm in 1965.  After his marriage in 1966, Lorne worked at various jobs in Regina and out-of-province, including roofing and sheet metal, farming part-time and on weekends until later years.

Throughout his life, Lorne was very active in the community, and enjoyed tirelessly volunteering and organizing for many sports, especially the outdoor hockey league, including working at the Imperial School Rink. He would always help anyone, lived life to the fullest, and loved the simple joy of doing things: fixing, growing, and spending time working at the farm.

Celebration of Lorne's Life will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Stoughton, SK and on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Victoria Club, 1300 Victoria Ave., Regina, SK.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Messages:

My dear von Mitch, please accept our sincere condolences. May you and your family find peace in the happy memories that you have shared with Lorne together. Joe and Monica.

My condolences to Lorne's family and his siblings. I had known Lorne, who lived on the farm 1 mile from the Thomas & Agnes Mitchell farm. We played with our cousins on the two farms, and had many good visits at Christmas with Aunt Ellen playing the piano, and reading stories to us. My Dad & Uncle Bill would swap stories about the farm and my Mom and Aunt Ellen shared good talks together...There was always lots of fun with my cousins playing board games, and the adults playing cards. Good memories of our younger days...Rest in Peace Lorne..

Rory - I'm so sorry for your loss. Take solace in knowing others are thinking of you and your family.

Our sympathy to Lorne's family and his siblings. Memories of Lorne go back along way to our school days in Froude. Unfortunately, we are not able to attend a remembrance of his life due to prior commitments. Barb (Montjoy) and Dwaine Dornan
