Lois Piechotta

September 23rd, 2015

Lois passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 peacefully at College Park II in Regina, SK at the age of 85 years.  Lois is predeceased by her parents, husband Jim, son Steven; daughter Sharon Piechotta, and brother Ronald McGregor. She is survived by her son Richard (Arlene) and their children Armanda, Kristopher, and Shelby; daughters Charmaine (Craig) Offet and their daughter Courtney, Shelley (Tim) Russill and their children Stacey, Chelsey, Taylor, and Candice; brothers Malcolm (Roslie) McGregor and Orville (Barb) McGregor; sisters Evangeline (Rudy) Raymond and Doreen Jones.  She will also be hugely missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends made at College Park II.

Mom was born in Maple Creek, SK on August 4, 1930.  She lived with her parents Hector and Clara at Nadeuville District.  She then resided 2 miles west of Gull Lake with family and spent numerous days with her Norwegian speaking Grandma and Grandpa Carlson.

Mom finished school at Gull Lake High and travelled to Ninette, MB to work in the tuberculosis sanatorium in 1949.  In 1951 Mom came back to Gull Lake to work in the telephone office.  Mom and Dad were married on November 19, 1952.  They lived 14 miles south of Gull Lake until 1957 and with Steve and Richard into that wee little house of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Horne’s yard.  By 1960 Charmaine and Shelley had arrived to make the family complete.  In 1964 the family moved into the Duncan Wilson big white house which she adored.

Mom was employed in 1964 as a nurse’s aide until closure of the Gull Lake Union Hospital in 1995.  Mom was a member of the O.O.R.P. and received her Honor Royal Lady pin as well as her President and Past President pin from the CWL from St. Anthony Parish, Illerburn District and St. Ann Parish in Gull Lake.  Mom held these accomplishments close to her heart.  Mom had written that as her and dad entered the “wrinkled path” of theirs lives they were going to “stop and smell the roses”.  But Dad passed on March 28, 1991 and Mom moved through that rose garden along with her children and grandchildren for many years sharing her tenderness with all of us.  Time went on and she crossed paths with an old friend from the past Morrison McIntosh.  They were excellent companions and everyone grew to know Mom now as “Mom and Morrison (M&M)” and she spent some time with her good friend staying in Swift Current with Morrison until his passing.

Mom’s love was her four children.  She always would listen to the many issues each of them were enduring and tried her best to assist with advice in an ever-changing world.  If any of them stumbled she was there to assist them.  In her next years she adored all her grandchildren and treated them all evenly and enjoyed talking with them.  Great-grandchildren completed her circle of life.

Mom’s most popular phrase if wanted coffee was “just half a cup” so, if ever you sit down and go down memory lane of Lois pour yourself a cup of coffee but, make sure only half a cup.

Funeral Mass for Lois will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Ann R.C. Church, Gull Lake, SK with Father Prince Celebrant.
