Steven James Piechotta
June 20th, 2015
Steven passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2015 with his family by his side in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 61 years. He is predeceased by his father Jim and sister Sharon Piechotta. Steven is survived by his mother Lois Piechotta; wife Cindy Piechotta; children Jason (Heather) Gibson and their children Brennan and Brady, Ryan (Kat) Gibson and their son Brandon; brother Richard (Arlene) and their children Armanda, Kristopher, and Shelby; sisters Charmaine (Craig) Offet and their daughter Courtney, Shelley (Tim) Russill and their children Stacey, Chelsey, Taylor, and Candice. He will also be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews; and the many friends and listeners whose lives he has touched with his humorous stories and jokes.
Growing up Steven was very involved with school activities and loved his drama class. He showed an immense love for sports at a young age on the track and field team and playing football. After high school, Steven worked in Blue River, BC at the Husky Service Station with his Aunt Rosilee and Uncle Malcolm McGregor. He moved to Strathmore, AB in 1977 to work for Precision Drilling for many years. Steven then met his lovely wife Cindy in 1979 and they were married on November 14, 1981. While residing in Calgary, Steven had a life altering tragedy that claimed him to be quadriplegia, leaving him in a chair for the past twenty years. This never hindered his spirit or his outlook on life; he always rose above his disability. In August 2007, Cindy and Steven moved to Swift Current where they resided for seven years. Steven then moved to Regina in 2014 to be closer to his family while Cindy moved to Calgary to be closer to her family. Their love remained strong even with the distance between them.
Steven had a great love for sports, especially for the Calgary Flames and the Saskatchewan Roughriders; as well as a great love for music, movies, and reading. He was always taking the opportunity to get autographs and pictures with athletes he followed via TV or the newspaper. Steven looked at life with a positive attitude because of the support and love from his family and friends to which helped him rise above the many challenges he had to face. Steven was fearless and always pursued his interests whether it was travelling across Calgary to see a concert, carrying his sister’s shopping bags though the malls, or seeing a hockey/football game. Steven was a fun loving man, always smiling, always laughing, and always had someone happily listening.
A Celebration of Steven’s Life will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Gull Lake, SK with Father Francis (Prince) Kurisinkal officiating.
