John “Jack” Harold Sweeney, late of Regina, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the age of 80 years. He is predeceased by: his parents Dr. Denis and Alice Sweeney; brother Dr. James Sweeney; sister Marlene MacFarlane;  and granddaughter Heather Marie Northcott.

Jack is survived by: his beloved wife, Josephine; children Blair (Melanie), Jeff (Lisa), and Sandra (Mike); grandchildren Andrew, Rebecca and eagerly anticipated granddaughter code-named “Tinkerbell”; brother Dr. Brendan (Betty) Sweeney; sister Maureen (Bill) Frazel; sister-in-law Ann Marie Sweeney; and brother-in-law Jim MacFarlane  as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Jack’s life started and ended in Regina. He was full of joy, faith and had a deep love for his family, the single most important thing in his life.

Jack was born in Regina on June 7, 1934. He had four siblings – Maureen, Brendan, James and Marlene.  On Dec. 27, 1961, he married the love of his life, Joey, at Little Flower Roman Catholic Church in Regina. They met at Regina’s Catholic Youth Center.  When Jack was young, he really enjoyed working on his Dad’s farm at Indian Head. Jack’s work life was primarily with the Regina Leader Post and the Government of Saskatchewan.

The most important part of his life revolved around his wife Joey, his three children, Blair, Jeff and Sandra, and his two grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca.  Jack was a proud father and grandfather.  One of his greatest joys was to spend time with Joey and watch his grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca, grow up into beautiful children.

Throughout his life, Jack was involved in a variety of organizations and activities. These included Scouts Canada, Knights of Columbus, Regina Rowing Club, Social Dance Club, as well as being a soccer coach, bowling, photography, playing badminton, camping, gardening, swimming and enjoying classes at the Life Long Learning Center.

Jack enjoyed travelling with his family to destinations as far away as Mexico and Texas to visit his son Jeff. His favourite vacation when his children were younger was to go on camping trips. When his grandchildren arrived, he went to all the school and sports activities as their “No. 1 fan.”

Jack always said that the achievement he was most proud of was raising three wonderful children with his wife Joey and creating a loving home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet St., Regina. Joey extends a very special thank you to all of the staff and volunteers at Pioneer Village for the loving support and excellent care they provided to Jack.
