Russ passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on March 18, 2016 at Regina, Saskatchewan, just shy of his 80th birthday. He was born on the farm at Kelliher, Saskatchewan on May 19, 1936.
Russ is predeceased by his parents John and Annie (Kowalchuk) Moleski; his in-laws Dallis and Catherine (Kortmeyer) Snodgrass; brother Peter and wives Stella and Rose; brothers-in-law Eugene Mandziak, Dave Blakley, and Marco Terwiel; and sister-in-law Beth Moleski.
He leaves behind his wife Muriel; daughter Cindy (Howie Crossman); daughter Wendy (Grant Miller) and their children Thomas, Daniel, and Patrick; son Phillip (Bev) and their children Janet (Kent Nicolson), Christine, and Stephen; daughter Faye (Art Szakacs) and their children Catherine (Ray Banford), Edward, Evelyn, and Hanna (Dalton McArthur); one great-grandson, Victor McArthur; his siblings Marie Mandziak, Gwen (Orest) Warnyca, Jeannette Blakley, Mike Moleski, and Dianne (Mike) Balaski; in-laws Lila Terwiel, Donald (Huguette) Snodgrass, Lawrence (Janet) Snodgrass, Gerald (Dorothy) Snodgrass, and Linda (Wilf) McNabb; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Russ fully enjoyed life. He was raised on the family farm in Goodeve, Saskatchewan. He met Muriel at a dance in Regina in 1957 and they were married in Canora with a reception at Sturgis on April 20, 1958. He worked as a semi-truck driver in his early years and later on as a mechanic. He then went on to run the Pacific 66 at Victoria Avenue and Winnipeg Street, which later became Petro Canada. After that he started Moleski Services and Grandpa’s Gas which he and Muriel ran until 2014. Russ loved his family, playing cards, music, farming, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, curling, and driving his motorhome. Some of his favourite holidays were at Waskesiu, Deschambault, Shell, and Last Mountain lakes and travelling south for short winter vacations.
The family sincerely thanks all of the staff at the Pasqua Hospital who cared for Russ over the past several months and family physician, Dr. John Morris, for the exceptional care and compassion provided to him.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., with a lunch to follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Russ’s memory may be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan.
