Sherman Rodney Clifton

March 28th, 1936 ~ April 4th, 2017

Sherman, born on the family farm at Neidpath, Saskatchewan on March 28, 1936, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in hospital in Regina at the age of 81 years.  He will be missed by his wife of more than 43 years, Eileen; daughter Kristi (Max Bombardier and grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Jasmine, Nelson); son Tyler; sister Shirley Van Kannel (Charles); brothers Burton (Donna) and Wayne (Anita); sister-in-law Glennis Clifton; plus numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by parents Archie and Cassie, sister Audrey (Don) Coghlan, brothers Iver and Douglas Clifton.

He attended Ensz public school and high school in Herbert and Swift Current, Saskatchewan while learning all the skills of farming and a family-operated earthwork contracting business.  He could operate and repair any type of vehicle or heavy equipment and manage any type of construction.  Sherman applied those skills to a varied career that ranged from operating his own earthwork contracting business in southwest Saskatchewan, working as an operating engineer and heavy-lift crane operator, to his general contracting business based in Regina.  His outgoing personality, generosity and mischievous sense of humour attracted a loyal network of good friends and business acquaintances that enriched the many phases of his life.  His grandchildren were a particular joy and he always delighted in following the lives of his nieces and nephews and their families.

The family of Sherman Invite friends to attend an informal Come and Go Celebration of Sherman's Life on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Willow Island at Wascana Park, Regina, SK.  Access by water ferry only @ entry to Willow Island Lookout.

Messages:

Sorry to hear about the passing of Sherman. I had the opportunity of getting to know Sherman at Mr. Sub at the 9 o'clock coffee row for many years. We had great conversations as he was very knowledgeable on many subjects including politics. One thing that stands out is when the American primaries for President were on. After the first one, we were talking, I had mentioned to him that Trump would be the next President. He told me "like hell" that he would ever make it. I'm going to miss him not sitting in a chair across from me as we had our regular chairs. Adios, my friend. Remember us when you go for your 9 o'clock coffee as the whole group will remember you.

So sorry to learn of Sherman's passing. I have had the pleasure of meeting Sherman for coffee at Mr. Sub for many years. Always enjoyed his company and conversations. He was known as the social director of the restaurant. He will be truly missed. My condolences to the family.

It was always a pleasure to look after Sherman and his family in our drug store, University Park Pharmacy for many many years. Sherman was always interested in our business and, more importantly, in our lives as his friends. We have very many memories of our friendship far beyond the drug store including Sherman providing our daughter with her first car and our up close and personal tour of the "Big Dig" where Sherman personally toured us as the work to deepen Wascana Lake took place all around us. We will miss our old friend dearly.

Our sincere condolences in the passing of Sherman. Sherman was a friend and business associate of our Insurance Agency for many years. Sherman and I had many discussions on the world around us and many a good laugh about things in general. He will be missed, but I will always have wonderful memories of him. My thoughts are with you all Burns Barlow
