With sadness the family announces that Mom passed away on Christmas Day 2017 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. Hazel was predeceased by her parents Anton Ellert and Anna Eickhorn; step-mother Annie Stangl; husband Peter Malach; brothers Alex and Ron; sisters-in-law Helen, Phyllis, Nellie, and Shirley.

She is survived by her children Tony, Shirley, Jim (Robyn), Donna, Dave (Shelly), and Ken (Kelly); grandchildren Cher (Nigel Brasok), Janice Spencer, Bonnie Malach, Laura (Jorel Shockley), Mike Malach, Stacey (Jason Caudill), Stephanie Malach, Alexandra (fiancé Brad), Jacob Malach, and Mackenzie Malach; great-grandchildren Jayden, Kayla, Rebecca, Addyson, Cleopatra, Daxton, Aisley, Ryan, and Von; brothers Pete Ellert of Assiniboia and Hank Ellert of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel was born on their farm northeast of Tompkins, SK and at 8 years old moved to a new farm near Rockglen, SK. After high school, she attended teachers college in Moose Jaw, SK. Her teaching career led her to Candiac, SK where she met and married Pete in 1946. They farmed there and raised their family retiring to Regina, SK in 1978.

She was a very hard-working farmer’s wife who always placed the needs of her family first. She was active in the Candiac community and CWL. After retiring to Regina, she continued with CWL at Holy Child Parish.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting (every kid and grandkid has an afghan), and watching her soaps. She also enjoyed travel making trips to Jamaica and Hawaii with Dad, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Alaska, Phoenix, and Italy.

Messages:

Dearest Shirley We are very sorry to hear about Hazel. Bless you and your family with lovely memories of your beautiful mom. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mom she was a special lady and will be missed. Sorry I missed the funeral as it was Ryan’s wedding. Chelsea and I have great memories of the interview she did with your mom when she was in grade 6. Your mom was awesome with her. Take care at this difficult time. Love Connie

We have just learned of the passing of Hazel. We lived on the corner of Brotherton Ave. and Cannon St. for 25 years and remember Peter as well. May she now Rest in Peace with him.

Our prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the Malach family during this difficult time. We will always treasure the time we had with Granny Hazel and the family during our years in Regina. Granny Hazel will continue to be an inspiration and example of how to live life with grace, humor and how to take each day as it comes. Missed but never forgotten - rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Auntie Hazel. I have fond memories of her growing up during visits to her home. Her smirk reminded me of all those Ellert siblings...something humorous playing in their minds as they visit. I feel for the sadness and loss you are facing now as a family and carry you in my thoughts and prayers.

Keeping all of Aunty Hazel’s family in our thoughts and prayers. Remembering the many special times we shared at the farm and in Regina! Peace and comfort.

My deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Aunt Hazel was a beautiful lady who always greeted you with her precious smile and warm hug. She was timeless - never aging through the years. A special angel will be watching over you from above. Treasure the loving memories of your precious Mother, grandmother etc.

Dear Tony, my sincere sympathy to you and yours, it is always difficult loosing a parent, no matter what the age! Hugs Joyce Opdahl
