September 16th, 2017
Alice (Elizabeth) Mate, late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the age of 99 years 5 months. Predeceased by parents Barbara and Steve Molnar; husband Joe (1998); son-in-law Jim Paik; brothers and sisters Barbara, Margaret, Julia, Vera, Helen, Steve, John, Mary, Alice, Annie, and Irene. Alice is survived by daughters Elaine (Ed) Schatz, Dianna (Ted) Kelemen, Jeannie Paik; grandchildren Todd Schatz, Tammy Schatz, Natasha (Jonathan) Keating, Trent (Renay) Kelemen, Jordan Kelemen and Justin Kelemen; great-grandchildren Jayla and Neleah Keating, Zandan and Tayvin Kelemen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born south of Lestock. She grew up in the St. Elizabeth’s area. She married Joe Mate in 1939 and they lived on the farm until 1964 when they built a new home in Lestock. Then they lived on the farm from spring to fall and spent the winter in town. Gradually they moved into Lestock permanently. In 1996, they moved their home to the Regina area where she still lived until her passing.
Mom was a great believer in prayer and the Rosary; it was a large part of her life. She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. She enjoyed baking doughnuts, kalach, cabbage rolls, and making chicken noodle soup. Her pet cats always kept her company.
Her family was her life. Her joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always interested in her nephews’ and nieces’ lives. She had the greatest memory for people throughout her entire life. Mom will be greatly missed.

Dear Jeannie & family. Our deepest condolences. We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. You all were so fortunate to have had her with you for all those wonderful years. We send our love and prayers to you all. Sylvia, Vince and Ramona Aitken
Our Deepest sympathy to Elaine, Dianna, and Jeannie and families. We will all miss aunt Alice and our phone calls. May she rest in peace.
My condolences go out to all of Mrs Mate's family and friends. She was a remarkable woman and mother/grandmother. She couldn't always recall my first name so I became 'Mike's wife' for many years.
