Edgar Karl Scheafer

October 30th, 2017

Edgar Karl Scheafer, late of Emerald Park, SK gently left this world on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife Alice, his daughters Joy (Rob) Dobson, Helen (Lincoln) Bailey, and Gwen Molnar; grandchildren Amber (Rob), Ashley (Aaron), Stewart (Nicole), Rhett, and Carmen; and very precious great-grandchildren Dylan, Ava, Theo, and Isabelle.

Ed came to Canada from Germany in 1952 as a teenager with one suitcase, a few dollars, and fewer English words. He spent a wonderful year on a farm learning the language and culture, and making lifelong friends in Nick and Helen Adamack. He then moved to Montreal to join his childhood friend and fellow immigrant Frank Holweck. It was there he met Alice, and with her as his bride they made a life in Regina. Ed's skill as a finishing carpenter and contractor allowed him to build a successful business. Many of his fine kitchens and furniture pieces are still proudly displayed in area homes, especially Joy’s!

His true dream was to be a rancher, and he happily spent many hours walking the pastures of their Cupar farm with his favourite dog Pye. Ed suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall at home in Regina in 1996 which meant a forced retirement. Alice lovingly provided the necessary care for him for many years. Their move to a suite in William Albert House in Emerald Park in 2010 allowed him to spend his final years in comfort surrounded by amazing love and support from family and staff.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Messages:

Dear Alice, Joy, Helen, Gwen and families: We were sorry to hear about the passing of Ed. Ed had so much character and great stories. He always talked so proudly of his daughters. Steven learned so much from Ed in the carpentry trade. May fond memories of your husband and dad bring you much comfort at this time. Look back on all the good memories you were able to have and smile at the fact that you were able to share these with him. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Valerie and Steven Biden

Joy and Rob, please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Joy's father. The notice indicated a man of great courage, determination and a true professional. Indeed a fine role model, sincerely Ted Turner.

On behalf of Jeanette Hampel and family, I extend our deepest sympathies to Alice and family on the very sad news of Ed’s passing. So very sorry for your loss!

With deep sorrow we miss our dear friend Eddy.

Love you Dad, I find myself smiling a lot these last few days as I remember all the happy times spent together. Thanks for always being there.

We send our love to all of you. Cherish the memories that you have with this wonderful man.
