Samantha Rae Goertz

August 1st, 1988 ~ May 6th, 2018

Samantha passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from a pulmonary embolism resulting from an ankle fracture she suffered in April.

She was predeceased by her great-grandma Wilma Papp (nee Sentes), maternal grandparents Andrew and Shirley Svetkov, great-aunts Stella Leo (nee Svetkov) and Nelda Svetkov.

Samantha is lovingly remembered by her parents Lori and Loren Goertz, brother Danny, grandparents Marvin and Jackie Goertz, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Samantha was a kindred spirit to her father, a blessing and immeasurable love to her mother, a friend and confidant to her brother.   A bright light and sweet presence to everyone that knew her, Sam was a compassionate, creative, loving, driven and caring person.  She could also go head to head with any truck driver using her eloquent language skills.    Her passion for humankind and music shone through with every word and action.

Sam graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and was working at Wheaton Kia as their marketing coordinator and also pursuing a career in Social Media Consulting.

Samantha and Danny shared a love of music. She had numerous experiences travelling with her brother Danny on tour playing in different venues throughout Canada and enjoyed singing with him whenever she could.  She was an incredible Vocalist with an angelic voice. The love and lessons learned by both during their shared performances and travels will be her continuing legacy.

Her compassion and empathy for others was evident in her sharing her own struggles to help others and she was a fierce advocate for accessible mental health support for all.

Donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (http://cmharegina.com/donors/) or any Mental Health Support Organization in Sam’s memory.

“ You could be my Silver Spring”

Messages:

We are so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in family and friends (Proverbs 17:17). For additonal strength, may you find it in God who cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Please accept our deepest condolences.

Thinking of you with deepest sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, so sorry for your loss.

My condolences to Sam's friends and family. I knew her as a warm presence in the classroom, and could see that she provided a great deal of consolation and good company to her friends. What a sad and unexpected loss.

On behalf of the entire Department of Anthropology at the U of R, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the entire Goertz family. We all remember Sam fondly - she was a great student and her sharp mind, her wit, and her humour were a real presence and much-appreciated contribution to our courses. As a teaching assistant (she worked for me and some of my colleagues for many semesters) we could always rely on Sam to come through and to give all her energy for the benefit of other students. Our thoughts are with you - her family, of whom she spoke often and fondly. Tobias Sperlich Head, Department of Anthropology University of Regina
