Ernest Arnold Jelinski

September 24th, 2018

Ernie Jelinski passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Dad was born to Paul and Mary Jelinski on July 18, 1934.

He was predeceased by his sister Irene. He is survived by his four sisters Erma, Rita, Valerie and Linda. Dad was the second youngest.

Ernie’s passions as a child were horses and cowboys; horses would soon come into play later in his life. Dad went to Sacred Heart Elementary School and then on to Scott Collegiate in Regina, SK. As a child in north central Regina, Dad helped the Primrose Dairy man deliver milk house to house; which would give him ideas for a possible future business when he got older; he was always thinking ahead. After high school, Dad was a delivery driver for Regina Florist. A little later he started his own delivery business, Ernie’s Pickup and Delivery, just like the Primrose milk days. Dad with some finances could finally buy his horse and stable; that was one of his childhood dreams. We can see him now so happy riding and taking care of his horse Petite. As he became older he developed a passion and love for cars; he had many beautiful 1950 models.

Later along came Cupid who introduced him to a lady named Simone Briere in 1956, and after 2 years of courting they married in 1958. With the love they shared they had four children in the late 50’s and early 60’s - Guy, Rick, Pam and Dale. Dad and Mom were very blessed to bring into this world two more children - Nicole and Raelyn in the 70’s.

Dad ran and owned various food and delivery businesses in the 60’s, but due to box stores coming into town, he had to re-invent himself. Dad went on to work for Westeel and then Westank and thereafter Ipsco, where he was in an industrial accident, which took part of his leg. That was a very life-changing and challenging experience not only for Dad but also for the family.

Now being disabled, nothing would hold Dad back. He founded the Saskatchewan Injured Workers Association which was an advocacy for injured workers. He was also a long-time member with the Knights of Columbus.

He took pride in going to see his son’s hockey games, and many of his kids’ extracurricular activities and school events. There were a million more gatherings that we all loved having him at of which there are too many to mention. The best thing about all the events or gatherings he attended was how we knew he loved them all by the big smile on his face.

When Dad hit the golden years, he and Mom spent time travelling with their RV camper van throughout Western Canada visiting family, having fun, and enjoying life. Later they lived several post-retirement years in Vernon, B.C..

Along came the Grandchildren Destiny, Kyle, Kayde, Ayva, Sienna, Jasper, Corbett and Jett and the Great-Grandchildren Oliva and Lincoln. Dad you will always be remembered and never forgotten by your loving family Simone, Guy (Kendra), Rick (Tammy), Destiny, Ryan, Lincoln, Kyle, Rie, Olivia, Pam, Dale (Susan), Nicole (Brett), Kayde, Ayva, Raelyn (Jamon), Sienna, Jasper, Corbett and Jett.

A private family service will be held. Donations, in Ernie’s memory, may be made to a charity of choice.
