Ruby Ruth Kerney

August 10th, 2018

Ruby Ruth (Goehr) Kerney, formerly of Milestone, SK passed away suddenly but peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the vibrant age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ken in 2013, her parents Adolf and Anna Goehr, her brother Wilfred Goehr and sister Joanne Booth. She leaves to celebrate her life her sons and their families Perry (Shelley) and their children Adam and Meryn, Tim (Sandi) and their children Warren (Jenna) and Gavin, Allyssa (Robb) and Pearl, Lincoln, Maddyson (Kelly).

Ruby was born March 27, 1931 and spent her early years on the family farm near Eatonia, SK then later in Kindersley, SK. After completing high school she ventured off to Saskatoon where she received her teaching degree at the University of Saskatchewan. She began a lifetime career of teaching in the early 1950’s in Redvers, SK then accepted a position in Milestone, SK in the mid 1950’s.

On July 31, 1957 she married Ken Kerney and took a hiatus from teaching to raise their sons. She returned to teaching in the 1960’s and remained in the Milestone School District until her retirement in 1992.

For those that knew Ruby, many of whom were her students, she had a most unique style. She enjoyed subjecting her country students to big city ideas like “Cheeses of the World” or the annual “Student Fashion Show”. Ruby’s classroom door was always open. She was a patient, kind and fun-loving person to be around.

After retiring she remained active in the community. She helped with Assisted Living, Meals on Wheels and driving “Seniors” to their appointments in the city.

She was a devoted Catholic giving her time and talents to the church. Ken and Ruby took an active role with their families. As parents, they were always there to lend a hand. As grandparents, they attended everything that their grandkids were involved in. We were blessed to receive their love and support. In recent years, Ruby wintered in Regina. This spring she moved into Marian Chateau instead of returning to her place in Milestone.

Though her time there was short, as with life, she lived and loved to the fullest. Funeral Mass for Ruby will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK. A reception is not planned.  Flowers gratefully declined.

A private family interment will follow in Milestone Cemetery.

Our sympathy in the loss of your mother and grandmother. Perry and Tim, she was proud of you and spoke with excitement about every time you and your families had visited or were going to visit...

Extending my deepest sympathy to you and your families.

Ruby was an amazing teacher and friend. Any of my children that she taught liked her so much. The community of Milestone was lucky to have her. We were also surprised to meet up with Perry in the Wascana Freewheelers cycling club in Regina. It was a great connection to Ruby and Ken.

Please accept our sympathy. We will always remember this remarkable woman. Margaret and John
