Eleanore "Miss Ellie" Baker

February 21st, 2019

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eleanore Iris Baker, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mom passed away at the age of 75 years with her family by her side on February 21, 2019 in the Regina General Hospital.

Eleanore was born in Sussex, England and at the young age of three, Ed and Ruby Sitar (her war-time parents) sent her on a boat heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Mom was then put on a train and sent to Elma, Manitoba where she was met by her Polish Grandparents Joseph and Beatrice Sitar. While in Elma she attended school and worked on the farm. When the war was over, she joined her parents in Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba where she completed her schooling. Once school was over, Mom began working for her Aunt Joan helping to run The St. Norbert Hotel.

In 1963, she moved to Regina and worked for the Government of Saskatchewan. While in Regina, she started playing shuffleboard. Mom loved the game and moved up the rankings quickly. In 1972, she became the first ever Canadian Ladies shuffleboard champion as well as Canadian doubles champion.

In 1975 she met Robert (Bob), the love of her life, and moved to Sedley. She quickly became very active on the family farm. Mom was very well known to be cruising around the farm in the 3-ton hauling grain and wearing her (shit kickers) cowboy boots. During the harvest rush she used to brag about unloading 2 combines on the go, unloading the truck into the bin, and still make it back to dump the combines again. When Mom wasn’t busy working at the farm, she was busy running kids here and there for various sports. Eleanore was very active in her community, volunteering on numerous boards, and patrolling and keeping a close eye on the town.

Eleanore was diagnosed with COPD in February 2005. She retired in 2006 and spent her winters in Mission, Texas and summers at Sherwood Forest.

Eleanore was predeceased by her grandparents Joseph and Beatrice Sitar; parents Ed and Ruby Sitar; brother Derek Sitar; parents-in-law Leonard and Florence Baker; brother/sister-in-law Cec and Helen Coupal; and brother-in-law Edward Leier.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years Robert (Bob) Baker; 3 children Sheryl, Dion (Kim), and Donnie (Bobbi); seven grandchildren Cole (Kari), Codie-Lynn (Justin), Cora-Lea (Dylan), Carter, Andrew, Brooklynn, and  Brielle; three great-grandchildren Cooper, Keston, and Jax; Aunt Joan Sitar; brother Dave Sitar; sister-in-law Jean Leier; nephews Curtis Coupal, Scott Coupal, Len Leier, Paul Leier, Tom Leier, and favourite pet Winston.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Sedley, SK.  Interment in Sedley Roman Catholic Cemetery.
