James Alan Brailsford

July 9th, 2019

James Alan Brailsford, beloved husband of Rita, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the age of 77 years. Born on August 17, 1941 in Macoun, Saskatchewan, he was a dearly beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed.

Jim was a talented artist, and exceptional person who touched the lives of the many people he met throughout his life. His father worked for CPR so he spent some of his childhood in Souris, Manitoba and his family later moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan where he met his wife Rita. They married in 1961 while Jim was serving in the Royal Canadian Navy (1960-1963). Jim and his wife Rita moved from Victoria, B.C. to Regina and he started working at the Sherwood Co-op (1963-1973). He then went on to become the Creative Advertising Director from 1973-1996 at the Regina Leader Post. Upon retirement Jim started his sign company, Adventure 54.5 and kept at it for the next 22 years.

Jim enjoyed all types of music, dancing and visiting with friends. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved hearing and telling jokes. He liked house boating and fishing on the Boundary Dam and going to the Regina Pats hockey games. He looked forward to holidays in Nanaimo during the summer and winter to help out around the farm. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved life and was always happy to meet new people. Above all, Jim’s wife and family were the most important part of his life.

Jim was predeceased by his father Thomas Stendall Brailsford and mother Alice (nee Crawshaw). Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; wife Rita (nee Gervais); daughter Shalene (Darshan) and their children, Danika, Shamus, Genevieve and Shaun; son Aaron (Tracy) and their children, Kelsey, Shaun and Brianna; great-grandchildren Jackson, Shaylah, Scott, Stella, Juliet and Eleanor; brothers Gary and Don (Glorie), and sister-in-law Jean; many other sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as numerous friends and business associates.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hall of the Regina Eagles Club, 1600 Halifax Street, Regina, SK. Private family interment will be held in Riverside Memorial Park at a later date. A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Wascana Grace Hospice for taking such great care of Jim in his final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salvation Army in Jim’s memory. Messages:

So glad to have connected with Jim and the Brailsford cousins a few years ago. Sorry we never got together before he passed.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years and always enjoyed bumping into him at the Pats games. Rest in Peace Jim. Sympathies to all of Jim's family at this difficult time.

Rita and family, I just learned of Jim's passing and was very shocked and saddened. He was definitely a Brailsford with all of his antics. Sorry we couldn't be there to support you. Take care. He will be missed. RIP Jim

We are truly saddened by the loss of Uncle Jim. I have so many memories of time spent with him and his family. Sorry due to other circumstances could not attend his celebration. You will see us very soon. God Bless all of you

We are so sorry to hear this news. God Bless you Rita and Family. XO

I just finished going through some old photographs ... many wonderful moments captured of laughing and dancing with Jim, and lovely pictures of Jim and Rita together, as they so often were. Loved every moment I got to spend with the two of you. Such joy and such fun. They are precious memories I will treasure always. Sending lots of love your way, Rita - to you, Shalene, Aaron and your entire family. XO!

I looked up his name on the web and found an article from the October 10, 2008 Leader Post about his 52 Chevrolet 1300 truck. The care he took of this vehicle is indicative of the way he loved and cared for his work, his art, his home, his friends and particularly his family. My late husband, Joe and I were fortunate to be his and Rita's friends. He will be missed terribly. My love to you, Rita and your whole family.

Good memories of us and laughs when we got together in Estevan. Always a pleasure to be in his company. RIP old Bud.

It was such a pleasure to have known Jim and worked with him at the LP. He had the most infectious smile and had a way of bringing out laughter in all who had the pleasure to have known him. I am so sorry for your loss. May your memories be of some comfort to you now.
