Frank John Chopik
August 18th, 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and papa, Frank John Chopik, late of Regina, SK who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the age of 78 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Frank is survived by his wife of 51 years, Tillie (nee Yaworski); four children Wendy (Trevor) McPherson, Karen (Bob) Taylor, Brenda Gould and Duane Joseph (Waan); seven grandchildren Shae-Lynn (Kohlten), Sierra, Jesse, Mackenzie, Blake, Braeden and Alexander Joseph; brothers Stanley and Bruneau; sisters Louise Suwala, Julia Reed and Gloria Chopik; sister-in-law Rose Hokanson and brother-in-law John Yaworski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents John and Katie (nee Churko); brother and sister William and Bernadette (twins) who died in infancy; son-in-law Barry Gould; brothers-in-law Johnny Suwala, George Reed, Walter Yaworski and Melvin Hokanson.
Frank was the youngest son born to John and Katie Chopik on June 23, 1941 on the family farm in Plainview, SK. Frank attended elementary school in Plainview and graduated from St. Henry’s Separate High School in Melville, SK. During his younger years Frank played every sport he possibly could excelling at baseball, football and hockey. He even played for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for one year with the Melville Millionaires. Frank furthered his education at Moose Jaw Technical Institute receiving his Journeyman Electrician ticket. He didn’t stop there; he continued his education over the years and received his Electronics, 5th Class Boiler and Refrigeration Engineering certificates. It seemed like we couldn’t drive anywhere in Regina without dad saying “I wired that building”.
Frank married Tillie Yaworski in 1968 and they made Regina, SK their home. They were blessed with four children. Over the years dad was always busy coaching, umpiring or was just there to cheer us on no matter what we were doing. Most weekends Frank would pack up the family and head to the family farm where he grew up.
Frank retired from Fuhrmann’s Meats in 2001, then went on to work casually at St. Peter’s Church. He continued to keep busy and was always willing to help out friends and family with whatever project they had on the go. Frank also enjoyed golfing, fishing or just relaxing at home in Regina or in Mesa, Arizona where he and Tillie spent the winters.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 100 Argyle St. N., Regina, SK. Private family interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. In memory of Frank, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to the Victorian Care Home and Palliative Care Unit, Regina Pasqua Hospital for the wonderful care provided to Frank.
Messages:
So sorry to hear of Uncle Frank's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time.
So sorry Tillie and Family. We just saw Frank's obit in the paper. Regretfully we never really got together as we had plannned to do. Frank and I lived together while in high school at St Henry's in Melville and I was his best man at his wedding. We had many good times during our younger years but drifted apart as we got older. We were quite shocked to hear of his passing. God bless all of you. Ed Hudy
