Diether "Opi" Johann Diering

April 7th, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one, Diether “Opi” Johann Diering.  He passed suddenly on April 7, 2019 at the age of 86 years.  Waiting with open arms for him at Heaven’s Gates is his predeceased wife, Maria Diering.  Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his children Linda (Dale) and Roy (Kristal); grandchildren Charlee (Tyler), Randee, Derik (Tiffany), Tysan, Carmen (Todd), Cathy (Mark), Mark (Amy), Dayton, Parker, Madelynn, and Oliver;  great-grandchildren Kayla (Nick), Justin, Megan, Avery, Mason, Sophie, and Aubrie; and beloved best friend Beverly.

Opi shared a special relationship with his bicycle and got a feeling of freedom from riding around the City of Regina and surrounding area.  He rode to the grocery store, he rode to visit his children and grandchildren, and he rode for joy.  It was not uncommon for Opi to put over 60kms on his bicycle in one single ride.   Whenever Opi spoke about leaving this earth he dreamed there was a very real chance it would happen on the bike.  His wishes came true late Sunday afternoon while beginning his commute home after visiting both his children. The family is appreciative of those who assisted our Opi by calling 911. We’d also like to acknowledge those who provided CPR until the paramedics arrived.  Your actions preserved our Opi’s life long enough that our family could say goodbye.  We would also like to acknowledge the work of the paramedics, the ER and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital.

As per Opi’s request no service will be held.

Messages:

Our condolences (in German we say Unser herzliches Beileid) for the loss of your Dad and Opi. We known Dieter for over 50 years as he started working for me learning the painting business. He always came around to visit about twice a year riding his bicycle. We will miss him. Now let him rest in peace.

Roy, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He will be missed but you will have great memories to share with everyone. Take care.

Our family knew Diether for many years through Auntie Bev. They were both invited to our many family events, barbecues and parties all the time. And we will miss his many stops at our house to say hello, while he was out riding his bike. Diether will be greatly missed by our family. Our condolences go out to all who knew such a great man on his bike. Take care and keep pedalling!

Grandpa D, you are very missed by all of us here at the shop. We miss the coffee dates and drinks we all use to share. The stories of all the crazy Regina drivers and how much pocket change you found on the bike ride here will always be remembered. Its a beautiful thing that you passed doing what you loved.

You were my best friend for many years, someone I could always count on. You were always there for me and I will miss you every day of my life. I don't know how I will survive without you. Goodbye dear friend until we meet again Love Beverley

Thank you, for being my mother's best friend and companion and a good friend to our whole family. You will always have a special place in my heart. I will remember with joy the trips you took to visit here, the time we spent together and the stories you would tell. You will be missed very much. Good bye, Diether. Love, Tracey
