Nettie Mazyn

January 27th, 2019

Nettie passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on January 27, 2019 at the age of 97.

She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Dora Bohun, step-father Harry Fedzun, brother Peter Bohun, sister Mary Chuhaniuk, brother-in-law Peter Chuhaniuk, sisters-in-law Zinnia Bohun and Sally Bohun.

Nettie is lovingly remembered by her children Marrianne (Carl) Couckuyt, Fran Mazyn, and Anthony (Joanna) Mazyn; her grandchildren Shannon Couckuyt, Lisa MacLeod, Laura Moore, Chris Martin, Leon Mazyn (Leah Freitag), and Kim Mazyn (Lara Bertsch); her 10 great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brother Dick Bohun; her sister-in-law Olga Bohun; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mom was born and grew up in Hafford, SK. She left home and worked at various jobs until she met and married Alex Mazyn. They lived in a remote mining town in Ontario and then moved to Winnipeg and were there until the Red River flood destroyed their home in 1950. Anthony was born in Hafford in 1951 and shortly thereafter Alex left and Nettie was left to raise her 3 children Marrianne, Fran, and Anthony.

She began to work at the telephone exchange in Hafford and transferred to Saskatoon to work for Sasktel until her retirement in 1986. Nettie moved to Regina and lived there for 30 years until her passing. She loved travelling, family gatherings, going to the casino, watching the Riders play, knitting, stitching and crocheting. Every grandchild and great-grandchild has an afghan created by Baba.

On first impression Mom was often described as a tall, elegant lady who was stylish and loved to wear hats. Behind the stylish, elegant lady was a strong independent woman with a deep faith in God. She worked hard, never complained, had a wonderful sense of humor and was always grateful for all kindnesses and blessings she received in life.

Prayers will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Eucharest Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Hafford, SK on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.

Messages:

Dear Anthony, So late with this condolence. So much water under our own bridge. I always loved to visit with you mother though after leaving Saskatchewan the visiting became only once in awhile. She was a spirited woman and loved life and her family. Always gracious to me. I am writing for Roman as he leaves correspondence up to me now. He is well but at 85 is feels his age and rests most of the time. We are in a very nice retirement residence now just two miles down the road from our house. Paul lives at the house and we have the bedrooms rented to International Students in their last years. Wonderful young men - China, S. Korea, India (a prof) and a student whose family came from Iraq. The three are engineering students. Otherwise, we live quietly, have good friends although many have died. Our computer is at the house where I am just now. Did some gardening. Don't know how long I will keep this up!! Enjoyed your boys dancing at the reunion. You have very nice boys. We always welcome visits especially from family. Our Jason and his family come every year from Quebec. August is the best time. Hope you are all doing very well and enjoying life. It is precious. Kindest regards, Joyce and Roman

My sincere sympathy to Joanne & Tony and your family in the loss of your Mom. She really had a long life and now she is home & in God's hands, Love Zitta
