Christa Donaldson

March 8th, 2020

Christa Donaldson passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 after a brief illness. Christa was predeceased by her husband Alex; her father Josef; her mother Elizabeth; her sisters Charlotte and Whilemina; and her brother Rudy.

Left to cherish her memory are her only son Ned (Juanita); grandchildren Keyara, Hailey and Tristen Donaldson; sister-in-law Iris Sirke; niece Kara; nephews Erik Sirke and Jason Cook; great friend Carol Porter; and many beloved family in the U.S.A. and Europe.

Christa was born in Austria in 1947. When she was young, the family moved to Stenen, SK. They then later settled here in Regina. Growing up she attended St. Augustine and Balfour Tech. After living in Rochester, NY, Detroit, MI and Lompoc, CA, she moved back home to be closer to her family.

Art and creativity were her passions, working and studying in Canada and the U.S.A., sharing her love with others and with youth. Her career at the Neil Balkwill Arts Centre, Regina International Children’s Festival and the Regina Plains Museum, garnered her much respect in the arts community. Along the way she won numerous awards, the most prestigious being a "Women of Distinction" award in 1998.

Her greatest love and what brought her the most joy were her grandchildren.

We will miss her terribly but are left with so many precious memories. Love you forever Mom and Grandma.

Private family graveside service will be held in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Regina, SK.

Messages:

I had the honour of knowing Christa in the 1980s when we attended art school together in Regina. She was a woman of strength who had a supportive, loving presence, and within her jolly demeanor were eyes so wise. Although it's been decades since last seeing her, she is often in my thoughts as someone who made a positive difference at the university and in my life. I have always missed you, Christa and saddened by your passing. Too soon. To her family I send my condolences. Sincerely, Lillian Yuen

Sorry for your loss may God be with you and your family

Our on going email conversations, since we reconnected in 2008, will be terribly missed. We took turns picking each other out of the trenches whether it was about health, family or personal challenges. Christa felt a special connection with my mother and often signed off as czzzzzz (The Z was a shared name with my mom, Zitta). My dear cousin was always there, all hours of our sleepless nights. Love you Christa. Bernadette bzzzz
