Alvina "Winnie" Jessop (nee Meyer)

October 20th, 2021

Winnie passed into Eternity at the Regina Pasqua Hospital at the age of 99. She was born in Cupar, SK to Jacob and Elizabeth Meyer (nee Klug), the second youngest of their 14 children. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Bob (Beth), David (Phyllis), Ron and Allen (Cindy); her grandchildren Raena (Steve), Charlene (Kenny), Rob, Jaimie and Marissa; her great-grandchildren Brayden, Ethan and Jordyn; her sister Lydia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, 12 siblings, her husband Harold and her grandson Shaun.

Winnie was raised on the family farm, first in Cupar and later in Lestock, SK. Working alongside her parents she became adept at growing and preserving garden produce, cooking delicious meals and baking homemade bread and buns. Winnie married her childhood sweetheart Harold Gordon Jessop on November 11, 1945 shortly after his discharge from the R.C.A.F. (WWII). Harold bought his father’s land near Leross, SK and the couple farmed, built their home and raised their family on that land. They were loving parents to their 4 boys as they shared their Christian faith, family values, strong work ethic and sense of fun through their own example. Winnie also became a second Mother to her niece Shirley Jessop following the early death of Shirley’s Mother. Winnie was well known by her large extended family and countless friends and neighbours for her generous hospitality, incredible meals, warm hugs and wonderful sense of humour. Winnie and Harold moved to Fort Qu’Appelle, SK when they retired in 1997. Sadly, Harold passed away in 1999. In 2005 Winnie moved to Highland Manor in Regina where she spent 15 happy years enjoying visits from family and friends and ongoing social times with fellow residents. She moved to Eden Care Residence associated with Regina Lutheran Home in February 2020 and remained there until her passing. Her family is deeply grateful to the countless people who blessed Winnie throughout her life and to the staff who cared for her so faithfully in her time of need.

In light of the current Covid-19 concerns Winnie’s family will have a Private Graveside Service. They hope to have a Celebration of Life at a safer time. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2015 - 4th Avenue North, Regina, SK S4R 0T5.

Messages:

My deepest condolences to the Jessop & Meyer families on the loss of Winnie, who left many wonderful memories with us all. My parents were great friends with Winnies parents and they were also God parents of my youngest sister Margaret Ann. I loved spending time at their farm and Winnie, Willie and Jake were so much fun. Riding the work horses, milking cows and corn cob eating contests were among the many things I enjoyed with them. Winnie had a great sense of humor all through her life and heaven is a much happier place since her arrival. God Bless you all.

We are sending our condolences to Winnie's family. A few years ago dropping her off at her residence after a family gathering, I offered to help her out of my truck, which she gratefully declined. I went to help anyways and found her already halfway up the sidewalk. There was no slowing down Aunt Winnie. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Dear Bob and Beth and family, Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Hers was a life well lived and so much a part of your lives. May your memories of times spend with Winnie bring you comfort in the days ahead. Our prayers go out to you all.

To All of Winnie’s Family, Our Sincere Sympathies & God Bless You Neighbour. Andy, Betty Tarr & Family.

Bob, David, Ron & Allen I am so sad to see Auntie Winnie gone but thankful that she did not suffer and that she seemed ready. It was a real privilege growing up with Auntie Winnie and Uncle Harold and you, her boys, just down the road from us. It felt like she was a second Mom for us and that all of you were our second family. We had a lot of fun growing up together and sharing family times. We all have so many good memories of Auntie Winnie's wisdom, her kindness and her great sense of humour. I will really miss her and I am so glad I got to see her this summer. She was very special to me. Much Love and Caring to All of You, Della

We would like to extend our condolences to the Jessop family. Our family (Leonard & Helen Kostiuk) were your parents neighbors on the farm. She will be missed. Take care.

Our sincere sympathy to the Jessop family. Mrs. Jessop was such a wonderful person always smiling and happy to se you. Many memories of her in Leross. Ken & Linda

Dear Jessop Family: We share in your loss and grief, but also rejoice in knowing that Aunt Winnie is safe in the arms of her Lord. I was especially blessed to have Aunt Winnie as my Godmother. I am so thankful for the life lessons she taught me with love and alway laughter. Our love and prayers are with all of you.

To Winnie's Family. I knew her for 15 years here at Highland Manor, never heard her swear once! A great lady and friend, Just wanted to express Condolences to her family and especially her one son Allen, I think, who explained to me how to fix my dishwasher, with his explicit direction and the help of Frieda Crawford we fixed it, easy peasy. At that time the part was around $6.00, and still running. I know she would have been 100 in July 2022. Her and Lillian Wilton were the same age and just days apart. GOD BLESS LOVE PAT

Bob, David, Ron, Alan & Family Our thoughts are with you. Aunt Winnie will be missed by both family and friends. We have so many happy memories of times spent at the farm and later Ft Qu'Appelle. I loved her poppy seed roll and Dwight loved her grape jelly (made from beets). Of course she didn't tell Dwight about the beets until much later. She always made sure she had both whenever we say her. We loved her and will miss her.

Condolences from Ed and Kathy Kish and Family.

Dear Allen, Cindy, Marissa and Jordan. So sorry to read of the passing of Allen's grandmother who had a long, active life. Thinking of you folks and will keep you in my prayers. Love, Aunt Ruth.

Much sympathy to all the passing of your wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great- Grandmother. A life well lived

My deepest symphathy Ron on the passing of your mom. May she rest in peace
