Anthony (Tony) John Kwan
April 7th, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) John Kwan. He was born on February 11, 1978 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed away on April 7, 2021 in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 43 years.
Anthony was predeceased by his father John Kwan on May 11, 2020. He is survived by his mother Joyce; his sister Peggy (Jason) Irwin and their children Jarrett and Alexis; his two dogs Roo and Bao; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends.
Anthony courageously fought a two-year battle with cancer before becoming ill with COVID-19 in mid-March.
He grew up in Fillmore, Saskatchewan where the family owned the Fillmore Café. Anthony graduated from 33 Central School and shortly after moved to Regina. In 2002, he left to teach English in China and explore the world. In 2012, he returned to Regina, Saskatchewan to be with his family and be a support to his parents.
For the last several years, Anthony worked at Clare Parker Homes Inc. He cared very deeply for all of the residents as well as his colleagues.
Anthony had a love for travelling the world, playing tennis, and turning his living room into a personal greenhouse. He encouraged those around him to embrace different cultures, learn something new every day, and to explore everything the world has to offer. Tony loved “Jeopardy” and anything trivia related. He always seemed to know too many of the answers and would always beat us at every game we played, even if we tried to cheat.
He would always share words of wisdom with those that needed to hear them, often saying “the only thing you can control is you” and “educate yourself”.
Tony lived every day to the fullest and we will treasure the memories that each of us has shared with him. Anthony would want all those that knew him to continue to learn, love each other, be virtuous and stand up for what is right.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this time and would like to send a special thank you to the Staff at Unit 3B at the Pasqua Hospital, SICU at the Regina General Hospital, the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, and the Kinsmen Foundation.
There will be a Private Graveside Service held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. We wish all those who loved Anthony could attend but due to COVID-19, the service will be a closed small gathering. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Kinsmen TeleMiracle, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Tony’s memory.

I will be forever grateful for your friendship Tony. You taught me so much in the 10 years I had the pleasure of working with you. We connected through Gentle teaching and were like minds of how we would facilitate to our colleagues. I know you will be by my side every time I facilitate moving forward. We had lots of fun in travel and learning together. I will never forget Vancouver when we decided to take a long stroll though China town and Eastside Van. Brave souls we were. We had great conversations always. I know you will giggle when remembering the night we were sitting outside our hotel and we watched 3 different people wipe out on their bike in the exact same spot in less than 5 minutes. I remember us laughing so hard we were crying. Thankfully the people were ok. Until I see you again my friend I will miss you so much ...love and hugs to you and your family love C xoxo
My sincere condolences to Joyce and Peggy as well as your extended family. I got to know Anthony as a young child when he suffered a broken leg from the car accident. He was a sweet, brave little boy with limited English when he came to the hospital. He had to be in traction and I'm sure that he was scared and lonely but he handled it so well. He was delightful as a child and from reading the tributes he grew into an amazing young man. A life to short but fully lived.
We are so sorry for your loss Peggy. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care
Tony will be deeply missed. I miss you very much and will miss our heart to hearts and chats about the world and all the wonderful places in it. Most of all I will miss your heart. You were so kind and gentle and you were such a good advocate. The CPH day program is what it is today because of you and your unwavering belief in the people we support, the supports and our community to have better and to be better. What a legacy to leave. We are forever changed by you. ❤️❤️❤️
