Byron Frederick Rogers

September 19th, 2021

Lovingly Remembered

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Byron Frederick Rogers.

He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Isabelle Rogers and his brother Ron. His loving wife Melicent, Daughters Kim and Debbie (Bob), Grandsons Tyler, Kole and his Great-Grandchildren Kai and Adally will mourn his passing now and forever.

Byron was an amazing man with a great sense of humor. He loved playing jokes on people, and was also a great story teller of the highjinx he and his friends took part while growing up in Indian Head, SK.

He had great memories of the family cottage at Katepwa. He loved spending time on the lake spearfishing, blowing the conch shell that he knew how to blow and could hear it across the lake, especially when his Mom called them in for meals. He was also a great swimmer and at one time was asked if he was a professional swimmer. He was just that good.

He was also a huge history buff when it came to all the world wars. His favorite channel to watch on television was the History Channel. He loved the old black and white movies.

Earlier in his life he had taken flying lessons. Although he never completed the program, he would have liked to have become a helicopter pilot.

Byron worked for Northern Telecom, SaskTel and SaskTel International. At the time of his passing he was working at the Sherwood Forest Golf Course.

He was a great sports enthusiast especially when it came to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Canadian Women's Hockey. He played hockey in his younger days and curled with SaskTel. Because of his love of sports, he coached his daughter’s Ringette and softball teams.

We would like to honour the doctors, nurses and staff in the Emergency, Unit 6A and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital. Their dedication, compassion and empathy went above and beyond. They truly are God's Angels.

A Celebration of his Life was held in the Indian Head Cemetery, Indian Head, SK on Saturday, September 25, 2021 with his immediate family present. A special thank you is extended to Pastor David of St. Andrew’s United Church in Indian Head for officiating at the service.

We would also like to extend special thanks to Kevin and Brent at Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services who helped us immensely. Their professional counselling, wisdom, compassion and empathy have carried us through this difficult time.

There are many Angels in heaven and now we know another one by name:

Byron

We were so surprised and sad to hear of Byron's passing. We really enjoyed the years we had coaching ball together. He was a fun and terrific guy! The family will have many good memories.

Condolences to Melicent and Families on the loss of Cousin Byron. I didn't get to see him much but I remember you all when I was in Moose Jaw training.

Always had a smile and friendly greeting. Used to chat with him at Sherwood Forest whenever I went golfing. A great guy, all around. He will be truly missed.

I knew Byron from the couple of years I attended high school in Indian Head. A few years ago I would run into him occasionally at the food court in Northgate Mall but since Covid shut down and restrictions I haven’t been out for coffee much. I remember Byron as a very nice person, my sincere condolences to his family.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a great man who always had a smile for everyone. A truly great man.

Debbie, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. Geno knew Byron from Indian head days but I had only met him while he was out at Sherwood Forest and he always had a kind smile and teased me about beating Geno when we were playing at the golf holes he was working on. It sounds like he was a wonderful dad, husband and grandpa so you were blessed to have him and his memories.

Dear Grandpa, We weren’t prepared for you to go You were too full of life to be Taken away from us so soon It’s still hard to believe How much we’ll miss your smile And your laughter in our ears Your absence leaves a hole in us We’re filling with our tears You taught us how to be our best To in the moment live To never hold a grudge for long And loyal friendship give Your presence was a light and joy We never realized would someday end Just like the brilliant falling star That curved ‘round heaven’s bend And though we cannot understand The reasons God took you now We’ll do our best to accept this loss To carry on somehow… Grandpa, we can’t bear to say goodbye But you wouldn’t want us mourning in distress So we’ll smile through these falling tears Counting our time with you quite blessed We will remember you forever For you, our hearts will always have room We loved you more than you will ever know You left us way too soon!

Our condolences go out to Debbie and Kim Rogers and the rest of the family so sorry to hear this. He was an amazing man he was so fun to be around could always make us laugh. He will be sadly missed.
