Roseann Schafer

June 15th, 2021

Roseann was born to Alphonse and Cecile Fowler on January 4, 1934 in the Ferland District, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest child of five. She was raised in the MacDonald Dale School District, Saskatchewan where she attended school. The Fowler family moved to Mankota, Saskatchewan where she got her first job as a nurse’s aide. She met Adam and they married on November 11, 1953. For the first year of their marriage, they lived in Mankota. They then moved to the family farm where they raised eight children. In 1980, Roseann and Adam moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. This is when Roseann developed a very successful sewing career. As well as being employed by Rittenger’s Men’s Wear as their seamstress, she also worked many years at Fabricland. At the same time, she was a billet Mom to hockey players.

In 2001, Roseann moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to Benson Manor, across the street from St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church and became a member of the parish. She continued her service with the CWL and this year marked the 65th anniversary of being a member. Before long she was volunteering and always willing to help with whatever was needed. In doing so, she developed many wonderful friendships. She was very proud to become a Lay Minister and sponsored a number of people into the Catholic Faith. Being sponsored by her meant not only joining the church but becoming a part of Roseann’s family.

Roseann also answered the call for the needs of patients in palliative care. She made quilts, the Last Tear handkerchiefs, angel (burial) dresses and bonnets, pediatric beads of courage bags, Covid-19 face masks and nursing caps. The sheer volume and quality of her work was impressive. But more important is that her gifts were created and offered with so much love and compassion. The countless organizations she was involved with will miss her in many ways.

Our beautiful Mom was strong, compassionate, giving, hardworking and multi-talented. She was a quiet volunteer, always giving both her time and talents. She was both the fabric of our family and the stitches that held us together. She was a constant presence and supporter in our lives. She celebrated every joy in her kid’s and grandkid’s lives. She felt every sorrow too. Somehow, we thought we had a lot more time together.

We miss you deeply. Love You Forever.

Dear Schafer family - Geri, Roland, Joan, Charles, Michelle, Maureen, Roslyn & Glennys and spouses, children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, We are so saddened to learn of your mother's sudden passing. We met her several times on occasions with Joan and Roger and family throughout the years. We were always impressed by her graciousness, her many talents and generosity, and most of all her love for her family and her faith. When our family (the Gobeils) went through difficult times, she always reached out to us, and we knew she was praying for us. She truly enacted Christ's love for us. We enjoyed being neighbours to Roseanne, Adam and their family when we lived on the farm at Mankota. So many years have passed since then, but we still had a connection and chatted on occasion. Roseanne had a deep faith and commitment to serve others using her many talents. I know she is now at peace with those who went before her into eternity. She left a beautiful legacy of wonderful people and works behind. Rest In Peace, Roseanne!

My condolences to Roseanne’s family. Adam and Roseanne lived a few miles from our farm when I was growing up and I spent many hours babysitting and helping Roseanne with household chores.
