August 14th, 2021
Hildagarde Schwartz, late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit at the age of 95 years. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Joe and daughter Carol; parents Emil and Anna Fischer; her sisters Ella and Clara; and her brothers Albert and Raymond. She is survived by her sons Alan (Jackie), Wayne (Tracey), and Ken (Barb); her sisters Elsa and Doris and brother Felix; sisters-in-law Eleanor and Verna. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Born and raised on a farm near Hodgeville, SK, she lived a vibrant farming lifestyle even though times were tough. Her large family and many friends created cherished childhood memories. Hildagarde completed high school at Scott Colligate in Regina and taught at several country schools before marrying Joseph Schwartz of Hodgeville in 1949. They moved to Winnipeg, MB to farm and raise a family. After Joe’s untimely death in 1965 Hilda moved her family to Regina. She returned to university and subsequently taught kindergarten at Sacred Heart Elementary in Regina for 22 years until retiring in 1990.
Hilda was a very active person. She always enjoyed the company of others and loved card games, bowling, gardening, canning, baking, doing puzzles, watching sports, and the occasional trip abroad. Hilda loved being surrounded by family. Hosting holiday meals and attending her grandchildren’s activities brought her great joy. Hilda was a dedicated caregiver to her special needs daughter Carol. A woman of faith, she was a long-time member of St. Peter’s and later Holy Trinity Roman Catholic parishes in Regina. In 2018 she moved into College Park II Retirement Residence. She immediately embraced its active independent lifestyle and loved participating in every activity. Never alone, she was always walking the halls, visiting, and telling her stories to anyone who would listen. A special thank you is extended to all the staff at College Park II and Pasqua Hospital Units 4A and 3A who cared for her in her final 5 months. She lived a full life, had many friends, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Mass will be held in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 5020 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hilda’s memory to the Regina Cosmopolitan Learning Centre in Regina.
