Larry George Solonynko
December 18th, 2021
Larry passed away suddenly and peacefully with family by his side on December 18, 2021 at the age of 82 years.
Larry was born on November 3, 1939 in Kamsack, SK, to John and Anne Solonynko. He attended Victoria School in Kamsack, Silver Creek School near Cote, SK, and high school at Kamsack Collegiate Institute, after which he ventured off to Winnipeg, MB and then Kitimat B.C. where he worked for approximately two years. Larry then went to Regina where he was employed by Roantree Plumbing and Heating until 1969, when he started his own business Larry’s Sheet Metal and Heating which he owned and operated this until his death. With the help of his son Terry and grandson Tyler, he worked in Regina and rural SK and had many satisfied friends and customers.
In his younger years Larry loved horses and enjoyed horseback riding on the farm near Cote. He enjoyed watching and participating in fastball, curling, soccer, car racing, football, and hockey. Larry was an avid hunter and spent many hours hunting for moose, elk, and deer. He and Donna visited their cabin at Little Swan near Hudson Bay, SK on a regular basis, enjoying leisure time with family and many friends. Larry was a sharp dresser and often wore leather jackets, cowboy boots, and fancy shirts. He loved his vehicles (Lincoln Town Cars, Navigators, and Ford Trucks), the bigger and more powerful the better - nothing but Ford Motor vehicles for Larry.
Larry married Donna, his loving wife of sixty-two years in the Moe Lutheran Church in Margo, SK on September 11, 1959. A reception followed the ceremony in Kamsack.
Larry was predeceased by his parents John and Anne, younger brother Ted Solonynko, sister-in-law Luba (his brother Dan’s wife), brother-in-law Pat Dreveny, and sister-in-law Sharon Pyper. Larry is survived by his wife Donna, son Terry (Carrie), daughter Lori, and his younger brothers Ed (Leona) and Dan (Melody). Grandchildren Tyler (Tikka), Amanda (George), Evan (Rebecca), and Raven. Also, several great-grandchildren, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and several friends. He will be especially missed by his buddies who frequently met at Chappy’s Restaurant for coffee breaks or lunch.
On behalf of Larry and his family we all extend sincere thanks for the excellent medical and nursing care Larry received throughout the years. Heartfelt thanks to: Regina Cardiology Associates, Regina Heart Failure Clinic, RGH CCU Dr’s and nurses, and the excellent nurses and team with the North PHC Network Home Care (Larry looked forward to his daily a.m. visit from the home care nurses and always had good things to say about the care he received). Also, a special thanks to Dr. A. Moustapha, Dr. O. Sultan, Dr. Yeung, Dr. D. Thomas (nephrology), Dr. J. Van Heerden, and Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services for their excellent help and service.
A private family interment and celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
