Peter Donald Hillsdon

October 6th, 2022

Peter Donald Hillsdon passed away on October 6, 2022 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was born on December 27, 1956 in Aylesbury, England. He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Gerttije (nee Tijsseling) Hillsdon; twin sisters in infancy; brothers-in-law Ken Sauder and Allan Rudderham. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Karen Biss; daughters Melissa Hillsdon Sweers (Bryan Sweers) and Meghan Hillsdon; grandchildren Haley, Rhys and Logan Sweers, Aedyn and Katelyn Hillsdon and great-grandson Easton Lang; sisters Hette Hillsdon, Suzanne Sauder and Louise Hillsdon; brothers Andrew (Doreen) Hillsdon and Michael (Candace Hagerman) Hillsdon; several nieces, nephews and relatives in the Netherlands and England as well as many other family members and friends.

His daughters Melissa and Meghan and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. His love for his family was very strong and never wavered. Whether it was getting together for a famous Hillsdon lunch, spending quality time with his daughters, playing games and joking with his grandchildren or enjoying quiet time at home with Karen, Peter’s love shone through. He had the ability to take your worries away after a simple conversation and he gave the world's best hugs. These qualities made him an amazing husband, dad, papa, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed.

Peter spent 36 years working at the Co-op refinery. He spent these years working as a Process Operator, Supervisor and Coordinator. Peter was very passionate about his work and had a tremendous wealth of knowledge which he was always willing to share with his coworkers, several of whom have shared that they considered him a mentor.

Peter loved to read, do crosswords and watch Jeopardy, this fueled his tremendous thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed playing and watching a variety of sports and doing photography. He also enjoyed woodworking, construction and working on cars and almost everything he knew, he taught himself. Peter had a deep and eclectic love of music. He rarely made a meal, did the dishes or worked in the garage without his favorite tunes playing. At any time, you knew that he might be quizzing you on who was singing or who wrote the song.

Peter was a very kind and generous man, always willing to lend a hand. He was a man of few words but when he had something to say it was always worth hearing. He seemed to have a knack for sharing his knowledge, advice or perspective just when you needed it most.

Peter had many fond memories of his childhood spent in England.  In 2018/2019 when return trips to England were made for the first time since coming to Canada when he was 10, he was able to remember so many details, from the homes he and his family shared and the paths to school to a favorite location for playtime and exploration, the “woods” near their home in Chesterfield. He was able to see his team, the Tottenham Hotspurs play three games at home, something he had always wanted to do.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Souls Harbour Mission or another charity of your choosing.

Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. in the Serbian Club, 2775 Avonhurst Drive, Regina, Saskatchewan. Those in attendance will be welcomed to share a story or fond memory of Peter as part of the celebration.

Karen, my sincerest condolences on Peter's passing. I didn't know him well but all interactions with him involved his helpful, smiling, pleasant nature. When I saw the two of you together it was clear how much you both cared for each other. I wish you the grace to grieve however you need to. May his memory be eternal.

My deepest condolences to Peter's family. I knew Peter best in his teen years. As a friend of his sister, Suzanne, I was around the family quite often.. even played a part in Peter's run for office on Thom Collegiate's student council.. he won.. he was very popular as he was kind, smart, sporty and very handsome... those rosy cheeks! He'll leave a hole in his family... fill it with his memory, speak of him often, tell his story. Much love being sent. Kelly.
