Garfield "Garth" Ivan Hubick
March 14th, 2022
Garfield Ivan Hubick passed away on March 14, 2022 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 85.
Garth was predeceased by his parents Fred and Anne Hubick and his sisters Janet and Hazel. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years Florence; son Ken of Abbotsford, British Columbia; daughter Jacqueline of Port Moody, British Columbia; son Grant of Calgary, Alberta; his brother Rick (Martha) of Regina, Saskatchewan; grandchildren Roman, Madison and Hailey of Port Moody, British Columbia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Garth was born in Earl Grey, Saskatchewan. His family moved several times in his early years and then moved back to Earl Grey where his Dad bought a pool hall. So, Garth as a young teenager learned to rack balls and shoot pool. He said he got quite good and earned a few dollars but always used the money to buy his friends burgers and fries.
He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba for a few years but returned to work in Regina. He had several different jobs working at Sears, plumber’s helper, milkman, worked in the office for Weston’s Biscuits and Candy, then finally for Bayer, a farm chemical plant in maintenance until he retired in 2001.
Garth and Flo married on September 2, 1961. They had three children Ken, Jacqueline and Grant. He enjoyed family camping trips, skiing trips, teaching the kids how to sail or just relax with a cold beer in the backyard. After he retired, he spent a lot of time golfing and riding his bike. He enjoyed playing games with grandkids, hide and seek, and the Big Bad Wolf.
On the last day of his life, he said “I had a long bike ride today. Went all the way to the west side of the city – what a beautiful day”. Flo said “You deserve a good rest after that. Rest well my love, until we meet again.”
Private family service will be held. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Garth’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca)
We were sorry to hear about Garth’s passing. He was a great guy with a positive outlook on life. Sandra Hubenig and Family
