Sonia Anne Rathgeber (Kozey), beloved wife, mother, sister, auntie and friend to many, passed away suddenly on October 14, 2022 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Sonia is survived by her husband Darryl; her children Adam (Bronte), Matthew and Deanna (Terry); her mother Anne Kozey; her siblings Michael (Susan), Stephen and Andrew (Annie); her stepchildren Jasmine (Greg) Korpan, Brooklyn (Travis) Garnier, Trenton (Taura) Kovich and Jenna (Riley) Henderson; along with numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father, William Kozey, along with her grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Sonia was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on September 18, 1963. She attended Goodeve School from Grades 1 to 9 and she graduated from Melville Comprehensive High School in 1981. She enjoyed a long career as a continuing care aide in Regina until her retirement in April 2020. Upon retirement, she moved to Maryfield, Saskatchewan to be with the love of her life, Darryl.
Sonia enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and she was the world’s greatest cook. She spent the last few years traveling, fishing and enjoying the small town life.
Sonia will always be remembered for her kindness and her smile that could light up a room. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a private service for family on Friday, October 28, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society (www.reginahumanesociety.ca) in Sonia’s memory.
Messages:
I was broken when I heard Sonia had passed away. I’ve known her since 1973 - this pretty little girl who lived beside our farm. This photo of Sonia, on the day she married the love of her life, Darryl, is how I always saw her. Her smile really did light up the room. Her joy in our messages since she - as she put it on Messenger - was in a relationship with Darryl was palatable. I was just talking to Marlene and saying that somehow, the young children you get to know as you are beginning your family, become a part of your family. They are not just neighbours. My deepest sympathies to Annie, Michael, Stephen and Andrew Kozey and to her husband Darryl, stepchildren and to everyone who knew and loved her. I can imagine her Dad, Willy, folding her into his arms when she passed. I don’t need to see a photo of Sonia as I will always see her smile and hear her laugh with my heart. Rest In Peace beautiful Sonia. With so much love, Ruth
My thoughts and prayers are with you Stephen and the rest of your family. Sending lots of hugs

I am so sorry for the loss
I was Sonia’s closest neighbor growing up and she was my babysitter. One of the kindest humans I have ever known. And you are so right about her smile. I am sorry for her family’s loss.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to the whole family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sending our sympathies to everyone .
