Larry Smith

January 30th, 2022

With sadness, the family wishes to announce the passing of Larry Smith on January 30, 2022 at the age of 77.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Levi and Leona Smith and his sisters Letty and Cora. Larry is survived and lovingly missed by his son Philip (Tania) and daughters Tammy (Tim), Marsha (Kevin) and Pam; his sisters Shirley, Faye and brother Iner (Helen); grandchildren, Josh, Bailey, Ashley, Dalin, Mackenzie, Kobey and Daitan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends he has made over the years.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date with family and friends.

Larry was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba but grew up in Melfort, SK. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in his 20’s and taught Math and Science at various schools. Dad had numerous hobbies and interests over the years and eventually came to reside in Regina, SK working at Acklands Inc. He then moved to Lumsden, SK where his real love for growing mushrooms began. He successfully owned and operated a mushroom plant for many years before moving back to Regina and ending his career as a teacher at the Adult Learning Centre. His passion for teaching enabled him to become the mentor that he was born to be. He loved to see his students excel and obtain careers of their own. Those who remember him would surely tell you of his love for coffee and how ultimately some sort of philosophical discussion would likely occur. Dad was never one to answer a question with a yes or no but, instead, you had to be prepared for a discussion on the meaning of life.

One of his goals was for people to see their potential and live it out. He truly saw us all as equals and deserving of love and compassion. This was also demonstrated in his writings. In his later years, he wrote 2 novels depicting the struggles that he endured but especially the importance of our purpose here on earth: to love those around us and accept the love shown to us. Dad longed to be in heaven and spoke often of being home with Jesus and the reunion he would have with those that have gone on before him. We will surely miss the words of wisdom that he imparted on all of us and the laughter we shared over the years. Till we meet again in Glory, Love you Dad.

Messages:

Larry was a beautiful presence to be amongst. My brother Travis and I will continue to cherish his memory and the teachings he bestowed upon us during our studies at the Ignite Adult Learning Corp. He never ceased to light up the room and his philosophical introspection always left us in awe. We were blessed to know you Uncle Larry. May you continue to shine majestically in the life beyond.

Sincere condolences on your dad's passing. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to Larry’s family. Larry and I both started working at Ignite (Adult Learning Centre) the same day and worked together until he retired. He was truly a unique person and I know he will be missed.

My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Larry. I worked with Larry for several years at The Regina Adult Learning Centre. Larry was always ready for a coffee and a visit which more often that not turned into a debate. Larry was always a fountain of information. I know all who went before him will be there to welcome him home. God Bless You Larry

Larry, your sudden departure caught me by surprise. Larry was a 'travelling' man in search for an ever deeper meaning for life. He acquired an amazing ability for self-introspection. He used his many life experiences to know others in deeper way and to reach out to others the best way he could without reservations. Larry was loved by his students and he would do anything for them, above and beyond teaching. Larry had a brilliant mathematical mind. Many times I would discuss math or science problems with Larry and he was impeccable with his explanations and results. To Larry's family I want you to know that in my many conversations with him, he would often talk to me about his family and he cared and loved you all. My deep condolences to you all for your loss.

To Larry’s family; my thoughts are with you as you endure your loss. Larry was one of those individuals you couldn’t help but like, the moment you met him. His enthusiasm as a teacher was infectious, and he had a passion for ensuring that his students did their best. I’m sure his quest for the meaning of life propelled him to the end. It was an honour to know him.

Uncle Larry will be so fondly remembered as the guy to go to when you wanted to have a good conversation. He always pushed me to think deeper and a bit outside the box on any topic. Condolences on your loss but rejoicing that he is with my mom, Granny and Cora.

My condolences on your loss. Larry and I enjoyed our conversations very much. They were always animated and engaging, took considerable time and included too much strong coffee.

My sympathy to all the family. May you experience God's comfort.

To the Family: Our Sincere Condolences with the loss of your dear father. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of sorrow. Maria, Emil and Michael Fiorante

Our sincere love and sympathies to all of Uncle Larry’s family. Nothing can or ever will take the place of the loved one who has passed away, but our assurance of our future reunion in Heaven is our greatest comfort. Larry’s positive impact on so many is a great legacy he has left. May God’s comfort be yours.

I’m sorry for your loss because he will leave a big space in your lives, I rejoice with you because he’s with Jesus and those who have gone on before. Know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
