Gerald Huber
January 10th, 2023
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gerald Huber at 68 years of age on January 10, 2023. Gerald was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Ralph and Mary Huber (deceased) of Strasbourg, Sasakatchewan. As Dad would say, “If you can’t take it, you can’t stay”.
Gerald was predeceased by his brother Leonard and sister Marlene Kelln.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Debra (Leier); his children Greg (Raegan Vollman) and their children Vaughn and Aynsley, Charlene (Roger Flahr) and their son Jakeb; his brother Glen Huber and brothers-in-law Alvin Kelln, Dan Leier (Nettie), Don (Sandra), Tim (Sheena), Terry (Kathy) and sister-in-law Betty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews all lovingly referred to as Billy!
Dad spent his early years on the family farm east of Strasbourg where he grew up. This is where he found his love for driving and developed a good sense of what hard work and dedication meant - something that he instilled in all of us. It wasn’t long before the highway started calling him. At age16 he moved to Edmonton to join the workforce. After a couple of years in Edmonton he returned to Regina where he found his passion for truck driving at South Construction. From there he worked at the bus depot, then back to driving for Kaufman’s Furniture. He started driving for Weston’s Bakeries/Ready Bake early on and would continue for a total of 25 years. Most recently Dad joined the team at Westwood Farm driving truck and helping with whatever the crew was tackling that day. The job was only a small piece of what Westwood meant to him, they were family, and it was the perfect fit for Dad at this point in his life.
Moving back to Regina was also the beginning of a new passion for Dad. He met Debra when he moved from Edmonton and they started what would become a 50 year adventure. Early on they loved cars and the list of vehicles they owned is impressive. Dad continued his love of all things mechanical throughout his life. As long as it wasn’t too new it was of interest to him and he could probably fix it. In 1975 and 1977 they were blessed with a couple of great kids (we are biased). In 1986 they embarked on a new venture after a trip to B.C. and a store called “Auntie Fanny’s Gifts and Really Neat Stuff” in Regina was born. The original location on 4th Avenue and Albert Street was a hit and led to change and expansion over the years and is currently known as Fanny’s Furniture & Kitchen’s.
In recent years Mom and Dad had taken up golfing and had many adventures taking their motor home (Optimus Prime) to various destinations. Dad cherished the numerous trips he and Mom would take to Arizona and the golf trips with friends all over Saskatchewan.
Dad had the unique ability of always finding the good in everyone. This led him to having a large and diverse group of friends. If you were lucky enough to call him a friend, you had one of the most loyal and generous people in your corner.
Special thanks is extended to Dr. Bester for always taking great care of our Dad. They shared a unique understanding and friendship.
A “Gerald approved” Celebration will be held later in Spring/Summer of 2023. More information will be available when dates have been finalized.
