Kenneth John Schmidt
July 27th, 2023
At an early age of 17, Ken got his first job in the food industry at McDonalds Consolidated where he stayed for 1 year. He then started to work at the Dominion store on Broadway Avenue as Produce Manager for 3 years. He then went to work for Bowes Ltd. For 5 years where he called on Connie's Aunt, the manager of the “Carnival” Kathy Rink. After that, he went to work for General Mills for 27 years in Regina and transferred to Saskatoon for the latter years. He then went to work for Parmalat, also in the food industry, for 3 years as a Business Development Manager. Ken had always been a shopper, especially for clothes, and it was fitting that he would work at Caswell's Men's Wear for 5 years. Also, switching totally away from the food industry, he worked for 5 years with Elite Property Mgmt., and later Colliers, as Site Manager of two buildings. Moving back to Regina, he started again with Colliers as site manager for a 6 building complex. Battling with Cancer, that job became too much so he decided on something easier, becoming a shuttle driver for a car company, a job he really enjoyed.
During his years in Regina, Ken was a member of Kinsmen and was involved with arranging Tele-A-Miracle 9 and 10. Ken's daughter Laurel and husband Johnie lived in Europe as Johnie played hockey in various countries. He traveled there several times to watch his son-in-law play hockey and also had the opportunity to see many countries in Europe. Ken loved sports, especially playing softball and curling. He loved watching hockey, and golfing with his brothers and son-in-law. Kim and Cory gave Ken season tickets to the Saskatchewan Roughrider games for Christmas. Ken and Cory enjoyed taking the bus to the games until it was too difficult for Ken to go. Ken's greatest love was fishing. He traveled up North with friends every year to a fishing camp on an island.
At Ken's request, there will be no memorial service. A luncheon for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Eagles Club, 1600 Halifax St, Regina, SK. from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the luncheon, a Graveside service will take place at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Kendal, SK.
