Gino was born, in Chieti, Italy on July 28, 1938, number seven in a family of ten children to Angelo and Grazia Bascelli. At the age of 13 Gino began working in a bakery in Chieti as an apprentice, beginning his lifelong career as a baker. Gino married Annamaria Marrone on September 26, 1964, in Chieti, and on May 11, 1965, they welcomed their daughter Daniela. On September 26, 1968, Gino, Annamaria, and Daniela immigrated to Regina, sponsored by his brother Benito, and so began their new life in this strange new land. Gino had his first job interview a few days later at Maple Leaf Bakery, he was unable to communicate with the owner, so his interview was making a loaf of bread, and Gino was awarded the job. Gino continued his career as a baker following Maple Leaf Bakery, at Dominion and later Safeway until his retirement.

Gino was a man who took pleasure in the simple things in life, He loved to garden, making wine, playing cards with family and friends, and travelling with Annamaria, he was especially proud of his grape vines that he nurtured and harvested for many years. Gino was one of the founding members of the G. Marconi Canadian Italian Club in Regina and spent alot of his year volunteering his time at the club, you would often find him in the Kitchen helping cook and especially making his famous Italian bread. Gino was well known for his bread and served it to thousands of people over the years at Italian club events.

Thank you to family and friends for visiting Gino at the care home, he appreciated and loved every moment he got to spend with you. At Gino’s request there will be no funeral service held, a private family internment will be held at a later date.
