John Ducharme
1956 - 2024
John Ducharme of Rocanville passed away at Moosomin Integrated Health Centre with his loving wife Darlene by his side on January 21, 2024, after a fast but courageous battle with cancer.
John was born on July 1, 1956, to Arthur and Margaret Ducharme. He spent his early years at the Ducharme family farm near Ste. Marthe and moved to Welwyn in 1969. The farm always had a special place in his heart. He first attended school in Ste. Marthe and later attended school in Welwyn.
He spent much of his working life as a carpenter in the residential construction industry. His handiwork can be seen throughout many homes and multi-unit dwellings in Rocanville and surrounding areas. John also ventured into the pipeline industry and spent numerous years working in Alberta.
John spent the latter part of his life working in the construction business with various contractors in the Rocanville area and continued until it became physically unbearable in the summer of 2023.
He was an enthusiastic sports fan and was a fiercely loyal, life-long fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. No one was allowed to talk when his beloved Leafs were playing on TV. John was an avid collector of sports cards and cherished his many rookie hockey cards. He was passionate about collecting antiques and collectables and spent many happy days at auctions and garage sales.
One of John’s greatest joys was cruising country roads and the Qu’Appelle Valley. He and Darlene did numerous road trips in their motorhome and would spend many a summer weekend at St. Lazare and Tantallon campgrounds.
John was a practical joker and was known for handing out nicknames. Whenever a celebration with music was held, John would always be on the dance floor and was a willing dance partner for anyone who wanted to join him. As the night progressed, his dance moves would become even more unique. John loved listening to fiddle and old-time music and was known to break out in dance whenever Johnny Cash’s “Tennessee Flat Top Box” came on.
John was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret Ducharme, siblings, Edith Caplette, Roger Ducharme and Angie Sadler, nephew Arthur Ducharme and parents-in-law, John and Emily Charles.
John leaves to mourn, his wife Darlene, sisters, Fjola Dorma, Alma (Howard) and Leona Ducharme, brothers Wilfred (Josie) and Philip Ducharme and brother-in-law Dennis Charles along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, and family friends.
Darlene would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to those who came to visit with John during his final days and an enormous thank you to Larry Charles and Sue-Wellyn Sadler for being there to ensure that John was able to spend his remaining days at home where he longed to be. Also thank you to the caring staff at Moosomin Integrated Health Centre who looked after John during his hospital stays.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held at a later date.
