Larry Wayne Stelter

February 17th, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our husband/dad/grandpa/great-grandpa, who left us on the afternoon of Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the age of 73.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Doreen Stelter and all of his sisters, Diane, Bev and Grace. Unfortunately, they all passed away at extremely young ages, except for his mom - just last year at the age of 93.

Larry grew up on a farm near the Kelstern/Hodgeville area and when he was a teenager moved to Regina, stayed with his maternal grandma and worked at a variety of jobs - everything from doing stock at Eatons to working at gas stations. When he was in his early 20’s he decided to go to school for welding but ultimately discovered that carpentry was his passion. He was a truly gifted carpenter/scaffolder and stayed in that occupation for the next 35 - 40 years, making lots of friends along the way that he kept in contact with. There was nothing he couldn’t build or fix and he would not rest until it was absolutely perfect. He was also very handy with car repairs, cement work, roofing, plumbing, electrical, flooring, and the list goes on.

Larry met Mona in the spring of 1970, in 1971 they were married and over the next 12 years they welcomed a son (Shannon) and four daughters (Melany, Heather, Karyn and Allison) into their lives. In 1981 they left Regina and relocated to a brand new house in Kronau, which of course, he built himself and it became their permanent residence for the next 43 years and still is. He worked hard his whole life to provide for his family and when he wasn’t working, his favorite things to do were hunting, fishing or finding someone who had a farm that he could help out on.

Then came the grandbabies and great grandbabies…and oh, when that first little girl was born in 1994 he would have walked on hot coals for her, soon there were 15 more (and some that came to call him “grandpa”). He was so proud of his kids and grandkids and would do absolutely anything for them if it was within his power.

He suffered greatly these past few months with pancreatic cancer but now he is free of the never ending pain and is reunited with his sisters and his mom and dad. He will be immensely missed by all of us, his family and friends and his two furry friends Finn and Arlo. He was so excited when they came to the hospital to visit him!

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of the MSU/ICU/Palliative Care units, the MAID program at the Pasqua hospital and especially Dr. G. Baumann, Dr. J. Jensen and nurse Pam.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, there will be no funeral service but there will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ luncheon on Saturday, July 6th at 1:00 pm in our backyard in Kronau for any family, friends and neighbors that would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Humane Society in honor of Larry.
