Richard (Pickle) John Zurowski

March 19th, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Richard (Pickle) Zurowski.

Richard  played many roles in many lives. To Linda he was a devoted husband and partner.  To Victoria, Candace (Steve) Michelle and Jason(Tracey), he was a loving father .  For Bella, Angel and Gabe, he will always be their playful and helping Grandpa Pickle and to Brooklyn, Tessa, Jaelyn and Mateo , he was their funny and patient Papa.  In recent years he also became a surrogate grandfather to Steve's son, Matthew and for Gary(Ronnie) and Larry(Carol) and their children he was a caring brother and uncle. Along with these many roles Richard was a great friend and confidant  and sometimes,  he was just someone to share a drink and conversation with.  In everything he did, he was larger than life and words cannot express the loss we all feel.

Richard was born and raised on the family farm in Southey and except for the few years that he spent in the navy touring the world, he spent half of his life on that farm.  After leaving the farming life, he moved to Regina to be with his love Linda and opened up his own shoe repair business.  Even if you didn't need any work done, Richard was always up for a visit and loved to “shoot the breeze” with anyone who would come by.

Richard was an active member in the Southey community.  At various times, he was a member of the Lions and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing goalie for many years with the Southey Seniors.  He also spent a number of winters running the Southey curling rink  and enjoyed meeting many new friends with that endeavor .

With everything he did, Richard brought humour and a zest for life.  He always loved spending time with family and friends and was welcoming to all who came through the door.  In his retirement years he spent many days fishing or puttering in the yard with his grandkids. These were some of his happiest times.

We ask that anyone who wishes  to leave a note of remembrance or a funny story to do so and please have a toast in his name.

There will be an intimate graveside service at a later date as per Richard’s wishes. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.

Pickle was always such a fun loving person. He had legit natural laughter and enjoyed visiting with all. He was such an easy friendly pleasurable person to know. He never had an enemy and was liked by all. If you were a stranger you soon felt like you knew him for life. So many people will now miss Pickle.
