What tribute can you pay a man whose whole life is a tribute? A tribute to his goodness, kindness, caring and generosity.A tribute to his unflagging spirit which has navigated his life.Verne had an inner strength and a gentle way of being. His engaging smile, easy laugh and wicked sense of humour captured all who knew him. Memories abound of Verne sitting in our Mother's kitchen, overflowing with family, joking, talking, sharing, delighting in his audience. Toward the end of his life his kind words were short and often difficult to speak but their echoes are truly endless. Our Dearest Verne: "May your spirit be free and soar high" We will miss you forever but will never forget who you were. Love--your sister Bev

It was'nt till September that I learned of my friend's passing. I guess it had been about a year since we last spoke. Now I realize in hindsight how fortunate I was to know your gentle soul. Your contagious and hardy laughter; for such a large man, you left such a small, yet memorable footprint everywhere you travelled. As always, we miss something once we lose it.Your friend,Paul.

I lived in the Queen Anne Apartments in Maple Ridge . Vern was my neighbour for 6 years. He was the only Man on the floor. We always laughed about the fact that he and I had some kind of inner washing schedule and did run into each other in the laundry Room with our baskets, twice we did Rock Paper Scissors to deem who went first Lol. I do know that he was respected by everyone in the apartments and the management thought a great deal of him too. Im sorry for you loss. Namaste Brenda Poole.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my much loved brother,Verne!Since he came to Vancouver in 1970,we,have over the years, spent a lot of time together. He has been a major part of my own family--taking his niece then his nieces out for drives either to the ice cream store or to Stanley Park and the Zoo!We always celebrated birthdays and holidays together---but he had to be in line for the Ferry to Haney by 7pm.One thing Verne was was very punctual!!!and try as I might I could not.For the last 10yrs,with the exception of last yr,we travelled together to our hometown,Leamington to visit our sisters and brother and all extended famiies of which there are quite a few!Since June/11 Verne had been hospitalized with severe pulmonary and cardiac disease in RidgeMeadows Hosp.He went through a long painful battle that sucked his strength and stamina out of him!!He was transferred to Rosewood Hosp. in Langley to rehabilitate and hopefully mobilitate as well.Unfortunately, the battle and pain was beyond his abiity and he slipped peacefully into arms of our Saviour,to join his Mother,Dad,AuntPansy and his UncleVerne !!I love you dearly,VERNE,I'll miss our lively discussions, our remenises of our growing up years and most of all your querky little smile!!!GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU============Your Loving Sister--JUNE

Do not stand at my Grave and weep Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there.I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there.I did not die. By Mary E Frye To my Family and friends of my Uncle WE will miss him dearly he was a very good man who was always there for anyone who needed.I wish I could figure out how to put the last bugle call on here. To my Uncle I love you Always Eileen

So sorry to hear about Verne, I worked with Verne for the last eight years or so before he retired. We had a great working relationship as there was just the two of us working out of the ICBC Maple Ridge office. I always appreciated Verne for his stand on things as we were both on the same wave length when it came to the working environment. Verne came to my retirement in August 2010 and I was so happy to see him. I will miss seeing and talking to him as I did run into him several times after we had both retired. RIP Verne.

To the family of Vern I would like you to know that Vern was a "good" guy as I worked with Vern at the Motor Vehicle Branch during the 70s and 80s at the old Van East office and also saw him when I was travelling to other offices that he then worked. He was a nice man to work with and was a nice person to the people he took out for road tests. I last saw Vern at a person's retirement party a few years ago and enjoyed seeing him again after so long. I have been retired fourteen years so it is always nice to go to my old workmates retirement parties and run into people I have worked with over the twenty-eight years with the MVB. I am truly sorry that Vern has passed on but always remember he was a very nice man and I did enjoy working with him that many years ago. I hope Vern did not suffer in his retirement years. Keep the good memories of your brother and uncle. Catherine.
