Johannes "John" Kooyman
July 27th, 2012
Embraced by a lot of love John peacefully left this earth to enter his final resting place in heaven in the early hours of Friday July 27th at the Menno Home. John was a very loving husband, father and grandfather in a quiet strong way and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survived by his wife Marie of 59 years, his sons Ted (Ria), Willy (Debbie), Marty (Ali) and daughters Margaret and Mariann (Rick), 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, also survived by two sisters in the Netherlands. Predeceased by his son Martinus (1960) and his brothers Theo and Bill. Born in Zype, Netherlands John with his wife immigrated to Canada in 1952 and established a dairy farm and blueberry farm in Matsqui Prairie. Retirement came in 1980 where they then moved into Abbotsford.
John always enjoyed gardening and regular card games (especially Klaverjassen, Aggravation and Crib) with friends and family until Alzheimer slowly progressed. We as a family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to our friends for their well wishes and prayers. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at the Menno Home during the past week.
A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday July 31 at 8:30 pm and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday August 1 at 10:30 am all at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford with interment to follow at the Hazelwood Cemetery at 11:45am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
You are invited to leave a fond memory or personal message of condolence at the family’s on-line guest book.
God saw the road was getting rough; the hill was hard to climb. He gently closed your loving eyes and whispered, "Peace be thine."
